Dear Editors,
The Victor Manuel Cayo vs. Arturo Gomez fight of November 12, 2007 is incorrectly referenced in the database as an NABO Light Welterweight Title Fight. The NABO website confirms that Cayo was never recognized as the NABO champion. In fact, Lamont Peterson was recognized as champion from September 2007 to April 2008.
Please correct the database accordingly.
Thank you

Re: Victor Manuel Cayo vs. Arturo Gomez fight of Nov 12, 2007
Dear Blue,
The WBO/NABO website (http://www.wbo-int.com/) contains all of the monthly NABO rankings from November 2007 to today (using the power search tool). I've checked every single month, and Cayo was never recognized as the NABO champion. In fact, he was never even ranked in the top 15. I've also checked the WBO rankings, and they don't recognize Cayo either.
In fact, for the relevant period, both the WBO and NABO rankings recognize Lamont Peterson as the Light Welterweight champion.
I'm sure you'll understand that its very difficult to prove a negative. That said, short of obtaining a letter from the NABO itself, I don't know what additional evidence I could give you.
If the above is insufficient, please advise and I will attempt to do better.
Regards,
Reenthelawman

Re: Victor Manuel Cayo vs. Arturo Gomez fight of Nov 12, 2007
Ok, last ditch effort on my part.
Here are the November 2007 NABO Light Welterweight rankings (taken from the NABO website: http://www.wbo-int.com/):
North American Boxing Organization November, 2007
JR. WELTERWEIGHT
(140 lbs.)(63,50 kgs)
Title Name Country
Champ LAMONT PETERSON TN
Interim
1 Demetrius Hopkins PA
2 Timothy Bradley CA
3 Dimitri Salita NY
4 Victor Ortiz CA
5 Ionut Dan Ion CAN
6 Cristian Bejarano MX
7 Lanardo Tyner MI
8 Javier Jauregui MX
9 Francisco Bojado CA
10 Mike Alvarado CO
11 Francisco Figueroa NY
12 David Torres WA
13 Marvin Cordova Jr. NV
14 Adrian Mora CO
15 Antonin Decarie CAN
**
WBO RICARDO TORRES
WBO INT. WILLY BLAIN
ASIA-PACIFIC SERGEY SOROKIN
As you can see, at the time, Lamont Peterson is recognized as the NABO champ. The December rankings are to the same effect:
North American Boxing Organization December, 2007
JR. WELTERWEIGHT
(140 lbs.)(63,50 kgs)
Title Name Country
Champ LAMONT PETERSON TN
Interim
1 Demetrius Hopkins PA
2 Victor Ortiz CA
3 Timothy Bradley CA
4 Dimitri Salita NY
5 Ionut Dan Ion CAN
6 Cristian Bejarano MX
7 Lanardo Tyner MI
8 Javier Jauregui MX
9 Francisco Figueroa NY
10 Jesus "Chuy" Ruiz CA
11 Francisco Bojado CA
12 Mike Alvarado CO
13 Marvin Cordova Jr. NV
14 David Torres WA
15 Antonin Decarie CAN
**
WBO RICARDO TORRES
WBO INT. WILLY BLAIN
ASIA-PACIFIC SERGEY SOROKIN
You will note the following: (a) Peterson is still the champion and (b) not only is Cayo not listed as the champion, but he's not even ranked. The situation is the same for the January, February and March 2008 rankings. In April 2008, the NABO website indicates that the title is vacant. At no time is Cayo listed as champion or a top 15 contender.
As further proof of the fact Cayo was never NABO champion, the WBO rankings from December 2007 are as follows:
World Boxing Organization December, 2007
JR. WELTERWEIGHT
(140 lbs.)(63,50 kgs)
Title Name Country
Champ RICARDO TORRES COL
Interim
1 Willy Blain (Int-Cont) FRA
2 Kendall Holt USA
3 Lamont Peterson (NABO) USA
4 Sergey Sorokin (Asia-Pacific) RUS
5 Lucas Matthysee (Latino) ARG
6 Marcos Maidana ARG
7 Andreas Kotelnik UKR
8 Victor Ortiz USA
9 Alex de Jesus (Latino-Int) PR
10 Daudy Bahari (Asia-Pacific Int.) IND
11 Demetrius Hopkins USA
12 Juan Urango COL
13 Cesar Rene Cuenca ARG
14 Gianluca Branco ITA
15 Lovemore N'dou AUST
**
WBA GAVIN REES
IBF PAUL MALIGNAGGI
WBC JUNIOR WITTER
As you know, the NABO champion gets an automatic top 15 ranking. You see that spot (#3) is given to Peterson and that Cayo is nowhere to be found in the rankings. That remains true in the following months.
In light of the above gentlemen, I respectfully submit that the evidence is overwhelming that Cayo vs. Gomez was not an NABO title fight.
I hope that is satisfactory evidence.
