I'll catch hell for it, but in my opinion, there was no long count. Dempsey didn't go to a neutral corner. The ref was right.
And so the great debate continues. Honestly Ray, I think most people understand that but it's a loyalty to Dempsey, even after all these years, and one of the best "What if" that boxing has ever produced. If the fight ended when the bell sounded, what fun would that be?

However , whats important in the context of boxing history is the fact its a great story.
Could Tunney get up or couldnt he?
Who knows. The important thing about it is it keeps folks talking about it. Arguing about it.Its historical.
100 years from now they will still be talkin about it.
Does anyone remember who won the NBA title three years ago?

Just watch how quick and elusive Tunney becomes as soon as the fight is back on. Not the sign of a guy who was finished and saved by the ref.

Frank, that caption reminds me of a story about Floyd Patterson. Floyd, Gene Fullmer and Jose Torres were having lunch at Floyd's home. Not far away, a grandfather clock struck one. "Bong!" After a few seconds, Floyd broke the silence by saying, "If someone else will admit they heard that, I will, too."

I'll email you the photo.I haven't been able to put together prints. I also have Big Jeff.. PM me your email. I don't know if that is what you want, but sooner or later I have to put something together with the prints. I've been getting a lot of requests lately. All my inspiration is with the painting, not the organizational end.

This is a great shot. Frankie looks sooooo laid back and Frank Jnr is enjoying the intro from the great Jimmy Lennon. I watched Jimmy Lennon Jnr in action in Nottingham in May when Tim Bradley shocked Junior Witter. He also points like this. One of the fighters in action, a Syrian living in Yorskhire, got the Lennon treatment. "In the red corner, from Dewsbury by way of Syria..."
The fighter also enjoyed it.
Frank,
You do look laid back in this picture but what were you feeling; were you one who handled the big moments laid back or was it like some of the great athletes and preformers leaving their dinner in the restroom before the event. After all you were not "just" this fighters manager you were also his father and married to his mother so there was a lot more riding on it then the avarage fighter/manager relationship. Lastly was there a different level of emotion for different level opponants?
Thanks,

Nice, Rog. I remember reading that Gable died of a heart attack just a few days after shooting a film with Marilyn Monroe.
I'm sure her sexy presence did him no good at all.

Tangstad got clattered by big Swede Anders Eklund. It earned Eklund the dubious honour of a fight with Bruno.

Bruce,

I might look laid back, but I was nervous as hell, I was for all of Frankie, Tony and Bobby's fights,
it was so bad I couldn't eat the day of the fight at all, once the fight was over I would eat and have a couple of beers.
