Shuler was a good contender IMO. Hearns could do that to opponents.

I remember Price paying a similar 'price' against herol Graham.

I remembered Jimmy Cable too. I recalled him getting iced by Buster Drayton and Prince Rodney (name from the past that one, remember his fight with Pyatt well). I checked out his record and saw that he had a win over Said Skouma who was a quality fighter so Cable obviously did have a pedigree.

Do feel these guys were good exciting pros. Really don't want to diminsh them. They caught one early against quality opposition. It happens...

From the old timers, 7-4-1907 Tommy Burns KO 1 Bill Squires.

Folks in America were in such a stew over Boshter Bill that they tried to get Jeffires to come out of retirement to fight him.

They needn't have worried.

Cowdell was flattened in one round by Azumah Nelson. Cowdell was still considered dangerous then (although he was finished afterward), but he had previously been 15 competitive rounds with Salvador Sanchez, so it wasn't his first step up in class.

For the World Lightweight Title, 1930

Jul 17-Al Singer WKO 1 Sammy Mandell (Champ), 1:46

November 14-Tony Canzoneri WKO 1 Al Singer, first defense, 1:06

Three World Champions winning and losing their Lightweight Title in two fights in less than one round: a total time of 2:52 (!!!)

Caveman Lee KOd in 1 by Marvelous Marvin

Azumah Nelson knocked Pat Cowdell out in 1 round in 1985, with the best uppercut Ive ever seen. Cowdell had been a world class operator, having gone the full 15 rounds with Salvador Sanchez a few years earlier. I think the Nelson fight was the last in Cowdells career.

How do you know he was world class when he was fighting a fellow domestic British fighter in Danny Williams during that time? What world clas opponents did he fight between the first and third Williams fights?

Remember what happened to Sprott when he stepped up against Corrie Sanders?

So he was world class based on him beating those three and performing decently against an unmotivated Danny Williams?

ooooooooook......
