which weight division !!!
which weight division !!!
which weight division excites you like no other, the one where your avid interest lies. historically and even in this talent diluted era, you cannot beat .........
the heavyweight division.. !!!!
the heavyweight division.. !!!!
Re: which weight division !!!
Sorry fella, but those lumbering oafs by and large have never done it for me - too little skill and fitness bar the odd exception. I'm down with the middleweights - perfect blend of power, speed and skill. Must admit to being left cold by anything below Bantamweight as well.rhino222 wrote:which weight division excites you like no other, the one where your avid interest lies. historically and even in this talent diluted era, you cannot beat .........

Welterweights
Re: which weight division !!!
Historically, Welterweights. However, at the moment Lightweights. I can't ever remember a more exciting division for cumulative talent, maybe the Welters circa 82-84.
Re: which weight division !!!
Yep, the 'Welters' are a good call as well - would come a close second to the 'Middles' for me.
Re: which weight division !!!
The Supermiddle division has had a lot of exposure in the UK since I was a kid and has had alot of of my our best fighters in it with the likes of Benn, Eubank, Watson, Reid, Calzaghe, Froch etc. so I'd probably go for 168

Middleweights for me, and i include supermiddle in this. As it was all one division when you had superstars like Hagler in it.

yeah super middle is getting interesting.
mayweather retiring and ricky going south has spoiled some of the fun at 147.
super middle has lots of talent.
and no i dont include froch in that.![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Light Middleweight is beginning to heat up.
Joe Greene, James Kirkland, Alfredo Angulo, Zaurbek Baysangurov, Daniel Santos, Jamie Moore, Joel Julio, etc.

Meh, for me it has the least amount of established quality. All of the above need to prove themselves on world level (excluding Santos).
The fact that Mora can win the WBC belt by simply dieting says it all, really.
And 154 hardly has a legacy compared to the other "new" divisions.

Re: which weight division !!!
That's true, Emerson. But it's good to see new blood coming through. No doubt at least one of them is going to do really well.
Re: which weight division !!!
Lightweights, Welters, Middle.
But historically - the heavyweights could excite - just not these safety first lumbering oaths. I hope Haye can bring something back.

I agree. There are more prospects in that division than anywhere else.Asterix wrote:That's true, Emerson. But it's good to see new blood coming through. No doubt at least one of them is going to do really well.
Re: which weight division !!!
I don't have a favourite division. I like watching Haye (Heavyweight), Calzaghe (Light Heavyweight), Pavlik (Middleweight), Kirkland (Light Middleweight), Cotto (Welterweight), Pacquiao (Lightweight), Khan (Lightweight) - so it's hard to pick a favourite division. I guess it's currently Lightweight.

Shitman,
The question was which excites you and which do you avidly follow.
LM and M for me.
I don't have to justify why.
If there was a weight division for "staying in, washing my hair" that's the one for you.
An arsehole who spouts about boxing as an authoritarian but has never seen a live bout in his life.
Get back to wanking over your Ricky photos and eating your popcorn.
In fact, invite him round, you can put on weight together.
For those who go wooh - yes, me and him have history !!!

The heavyweights.
Then probably the flyweights up to around featherweight.
The rest I'm not arsed about - especially if they are fighting for a silly XYZ title.

Re: which weight division !!!
Middleweights were always my favourite overall in the 80s although the Super-Middle division diluted it a bit and denied us what could have been perhaps another golden era.
But probably not much beats the excitement of World Heavyweight Title fight night for me. Obviously not with the current crop but the Bowe-Holy-Tyson-Lennox nights were great for me. At Heavyweight more than any other you really do get the sense that anything (literally in Tyson's case) could happen at any given moment...

Re: which weight division !!!
About a stone up, though, and you have some of the best and most exciting fighters of the modern era. For me, it's whatever division is strongest at the time. Currently, the welters and the lightweights. I lost interest in the heavies some time ago, probably around the time Lennox retired. As for the tiny fellas, I do enjoy watching them, but there's usually a dearth of truly great ones. I will be watching Ivan Calderon on Setanta this weekend, though.rhino222 wrote:flyweights etc just do naff all for me.

On Topic. Heavyweights for me, although any division can have boring/exciting fights the 1 punch excitement of heavyweights makes it truly exciting. A pity the current division is pretty predictable and the fighters are unexciting
Actually world boxing as a whole isn't as exciting as it was yesteryear
Re: which weight division !!!
Super-Bantamweight for me, despite the low weight it always seems to be full of punchers and with fights like Morales v Barrera I, Vasquez v Marquez trilogy, Vasquez v Gonzalez, Monshipour v Sithchatchawal, and some first round knockouts like Ponce De Leon v Bautista and Juan Manuel Lopez v Ponce De Leon it's always full of excitement.
Not only do you see plenty of power punchers and exciting fights but the overall quality is up there with any weight division bar maybe Lightweight.
I have to say since its inception I think Super-Middleweight has given us a very good blend of speed, power and activity.
