Amir Khan

Post by Dioufy »

I justed wanted to say some things and get a few things off my chest about young Amir.

I know there's a lot of disdain towards him, and there's most definitely a lot on here from a few 'knowledgeable' boxing fans. I really can't understand the hatred towards him - he's done nothing wrong. He comes to fight, even though he's a little bit chinny, but that adds to the excitement of watching his fights. Even when he's been hurt he comes out fighting like he did against Limond and Gomez. He has bags of heart and I believe him when he says he would fight anyone. I don't know what people want - if he stayed in the shadows and fought bums people would have a pop, and when he talks about fighting top fighters people call him deluded. Make up your mind.

I also want to say that I won't be buying his fighting next Saturday. It's allegedly's fault it's on PPV not Khan's. And it's Warren's fault that he's fighting smaller guys. I believe he would fight the best given the chance.

So come on lads, why do you not like/rate Khan? And please state facts for your aguement justifications.

I don't dislike Khan, I dislike the way his career has been managed, he has been given easy fights when he could have been given tougher fights which would have earned him a lot more money and the respect to go with it.
I think he's the best lightweight in Britain and I think he should have had the chance to fight Thaxton and Meager instead of Kristjannsen and Gomez because I believe he'd have sparked them both out. Khan v Murray is a fight I'd love to see and hopefully it will happen by the end of the year but I doubt it.
As for this PPV farce it isn't Khans fault that Sky and Fwank are greedy but I won't be buying it anyway, anyway I really do hope Khan can silence his critics and win a world title one day.

Is Khan picking his own opponents? He is not.

If Khan was with another promoter he wouldn't receive nearly so much backlash.

Well, I have been a defender of Khan since I've been posting on here. I'm not about to change stance despite the cynical matchmaking.

Like others have alluded to, I think any 'hatred' comes from the matchmaking in all honesty.

There are definate flaws in Khan which may explain that matchmaking but I hope he reaches his undoubted potential.

He is a bit of a hype job - The match making even for Frank Warrén has been that of a cat in headlights.

It's a shame for Khan that he is under such a microscope, but it was his choice to go with it - He actually does do a good job of dealing with it at such a young age, but it's what happens in the ring that interests me.

With that, I maintain he is still far too amateurish, and he lacks knockout power. His chin is still a major question too.

It's not about hate or dislike for me - It's about basing an opinion on his ability in a boxing ring, and he has such a long way to go in that respect - I have serious doubts he will reach world title level, let alone world elite.

I'm a Khan fan, I wish he'd get a move on and fight someone proven with a pulse, I'd actually pay money to see such a fight, unproven Columbians don't count

I remember liking Khan when he was an amateur in the Olympics. I rooted for him. He seemed talented and humble.

As soon as he signed with SN, the cynical, sport-damaging regime took over, and being as he was inextricably linked with Warren, it was impossible to root for him any more.

add that to the irrepressible hyping up of the guy combined with the fooling (and now milking) of the public, along with warren not having faith in him anyway, and i just want to see him get sparked and frankie's face.

If he wasn't so frail and didn't have so many flaws I might be just frustrated and wish he just changed promoters, but as it is he hasn't got a hope in hell of being a Ring champ so the circus may as well end as soon as possible.

I dont dislike Amir Khan as a person but I do dislike some of the things he does. His driving without regard for other road users in particular is a very serious matter. Calling out the big names when he hasnt realistically got any chance of beating them is an irritating nonesense but nothing more. FW knows what Khans potential really is, and is obviously planning to make as much as he can for himself and Khan before putting him in with one of the worlds elite. Khan may be in fight 24/25 when that happens, I dont think FW is in any rush. Had Khan been really hot property then 5 fights less would have been about right. Fact is Khan is very vulnerable and needs to have more fights which he can learn from. Like all youngsters he wants to run before he can walk and FW wont allow him to do so. He may have won Olympic silver but the pro game is a very different matter. Personally I dont see Khan as another Calzaghe or Hatton and I think most who know the game have already decided he isnt going to make that level. Having said that he is very good and certainly comparable with say Alex Arthur. Whatever happens he already has a world champions bank account, so win or lose he can only get richer. Stick with FW and he could have 10 years plus to make a real fortune with Frank finding obscure fighters to match him with.

I dislike him firstly due to his treatment of Olly Harrison, and secondly due to the incohesion between his post fight interview comments and the subsequent matchmaking of his "safety first" promoter. I have to say though, on the three or four occassions Ive met the kid he's been a quiet lad, unassuming. Chances are its the people around him that have ignited my dislike.

Indeed the Harrison affair was pretty harsh, but it happens in Boxing. Just like in any other sport. The Khan team could have probably handeled it better, but at the end of the day, we don't know the full story, i doubt we ever will, what has happened, has happened.

Also i dont think i have ever heard him claim to be the best... Maybe you must have heard something form those Adrenaline-Filled interviews he gives after his Matches. I have heard him say he wants to be the best, but have also heard him say he needs to work his way up.

IF anything, i like Khan for being quite humble. Alot of other Boxers go around being Bling Bling, shouting their mouths off when given half the chance. Khan seems to be more focused on his career rather than what others think. Not to mention a lot of Work and money he has done/given for Charity.

He is a good lad, people just need lay off and stop being so harsh.

I think that generally people don't hate Amir, that's a bit strong.

But it's the constant 'let me at Thaxton (read Romanov, Murray ect ect) if he's got the bottle'

Then when they DO have they bottle POOOF, the matches dissapear :)
