That might just be the best Warren interview I've ever read. A little one-sided, but very good.

Made interesting reading and the Naz anecdote at the end made for a cracking 'pay-off'. However, it's hard to feel sorry for Frank re. Calzaghe as he wouldn't hesitate to end an association with a boxer if he felt it was a poor relationship from a commercial perspective - I can't recall Frank sustaining a commercial relationship with a boxer who could no longer generate revenue for him purely out of sentiment.

Yes that's a really excellent interview by McRae, one of the best boxing writers in the biz. Frank actualy comes over well, the Naz bit says a lot.
And it's true you don't really hear a lot of fighters talking about how Frank screwed them over, unlike King and co, and maybe there's a lot of truth to that. He gets a lot of flak on here, but it comes with the territory I guess.

So he was really forced into this Khan PPV gamble by the sounds of it, in order to meet King Khan's purse demands. It was either that, or goodbye Amir. I wonder if he'll hit those figures, and I wonder if there's a clause in the contract, in case Amir gets sparked.
No way his comeback is PPV, if he does get flattened...

I doubt it would have been to another UK promoter, and the Americans certainly wouldn't match him as safely as Frank has. Can't help but feel it's a little bit of a desperate move by Warren, that we as boxing fans are having to pay for.

I wouldn't take Warren's word for gospel truth. He's a very wily character and he knows all of what you're saying.

Said only Billy Joe was the only member of team GB he spoke to before the games.... but a few paragraphs before said he was speaking to Gavin and telling him to see the Doctor and Coach about his weight issues.

On Gavin "Frankie Gavin is also a good fighter and he rang me up when he was out there, asking my advice about the weight. I said, 'You've got to go and see the team doctor and [coach] Terry Edwards because you've got a problem.' It's pretty crazy that he couldn't make the weight.

Gavin was out there and out of the Olympics BEFORE the games started. It is pretty clear that this conversation took place before any boxing begun.

So a professional promoter was speaking to our leading amateur purely as an altruistic gesture?

The thing that actual "concerns" me somewhat about the article is what happens if Khan's fight doesn't make the buy rate to make this fight profitable. It sounds like, given the contract that has been signed, that all Khan fights need to be on PPV.

So will that then mean 1) Either rushing Khan into big fights in the hope they will get the figures 2) Getting an "undercard" that will really wet the TV audience appetite but at the same time probably taking longer to organise (and therefore Khan will become increasingly less active).

Even if Khan does a number on the Columbian... the promotion, or lack of it from Sky, could have a massively damaging affect on Khan's future. Although you could save, serve the bugger right for being greedy in the first place.
