I couldn't believe his reaction when he got tagged flush late on with a left hook - he looked at the ref to protest. The ref didn't hit you mate! Have a bloody fight! He was getting his head boxed off, crushing and dispiriting certainly, but I was disappointed with the lack of leather thrown by him full stop.
Martinez spun him just before that though, I think that's why.
He claimed he was hit on the break, but I think he was just clutching at straws by then.

Yeah, he had been spun round, true. I don't mean any disrespect to him and feel he is better than that showing. I think he knew he was beat but shut down before he'd done what he could, if you know what I mean.

I think the two knockdowns that Williams scored in the first fight were the worst thing that could have happened really. He spent the whole of last night's fight looking for that one shot to take Martinez out, and even when he did manage to land flush, Martinez just shrugged them off.

Williams fought the exact same fight Stone did. He should have known plodding round after someone as skilled as martinez could only lead to disaster.

yup, imo if he'd crouched and kept firing one two's to the body he'd have done a lot better

Agreed, but it's easier said than done against someone who moves as much as martinez, and if Williams slipped one jab all night, I didn't see it. I know someone's allready mentioned it, but how big was Martinez? He was fornicating ripped to fornicate!

Well that's what I mean, if he'd stayed low with the gloves up the jab would've caught him on the top of the head and it wouldn't have be such a factor. I'm taking nothing away from Martinez but it looked to me like since the first fight Martinez knew how to improve on his performance (not like he should feel he needed to) while Williams didn't.
Maybe I'm being a bit zealous, I read the article on SO today saying RW's "career is over", I disagree with that, providing his confidence (not to mention his brain) isn't shattered I think if he gets straight back in and keeps busy, with some thoughtful matchmaking (no southpaws ) he can have some respectable successes.

No, southpaws are dull. All the greatest fighters in boxing history: Ali, Pep, Robinson, Jones, Dean Bramhald, and Louis, were orthodox.
Southpaws stink...

Marvin was only good when he turned orthodox. Can you imagine Duran as a southpaw! My God. Please, no.

PS: I was referring to Junior Jones, not Roy.

Am i the only one clamouring for a third match?! :D Williams should concentrate on domestic matches now, maybe against Takaloo or Wayne Alexander. As for Martinez well would he be so good against better fighters than Williams? That is what we need to find out now, he should kiss goodbye to these shores and look for some fights in America, he could pose problems for most Light Middleweights, he strikes me as the perfect away fighter, his style is made for an away fighter.

Indeed. Also, he is higher in Ring Magazine's all time ratings than a couple of tghose you mentioned Bennie.

Pernell Whitaker is a great great fighter.

Martinez clearly has some hunger. His considerable strength told on Williams right from the first exchange of punches.

Takaloo & Alexander would fair no better.

SM was very strong.. as someone said - a lot of weight training must have gone on in the last 10 months !.

No way is RW finished - he was his old self but SM was always a step ahead on the speed stakes..

European is the stage to concentrate on - Karmazin has given up the title and RW can figure in the mix after a couple of fights..

SO should know better than to say he is Finished !.

How can you be the best in your country and one of the best in Europe and be finished ?..

Domestically or European level...RW still has it and who is to say he could not topple Santos in time !

Martinez is a nightmare for most !
