Shouldn't Mayorga now be ranked at Middleweight - after his last bout with 155+ pounds?

I understand your arguments, Blue.Blue wrote:Not in my opinion,![]()
Most boxers fight a few pounds over their category in non title fights.![]()
155 is the heaviest Mayorga’s ever been, so I would not put him higher than Light middle.
All of his defining fights are at 147. 8)
The question behind my question was - there seem to be problems with the correct division for a boxer - we don't have some objective rules for boxrec?
I agree there’s a need for some ground rules for a boxer’s correct division.
Especially after the dela Hoya tug-of-war that went on last week.
Floyd Mayweather & Paul Spadafora have renounced there lightweight titles and have a 140 lb fight scheduled.
So I would say an official announcement by the fighter’s team should play a part.
BoxRec presently has WBO lightwelter champ Judah rated at welter, but he hasn’t renounced his title.
As previously stated, I really don’t think one fight should dictate the division the fighter is rated in.

I see there is a lot of trouble. So we should keep things simple and clear - as something won't be accepted by all anyway.
option 1: Keep every boxer in the divison he boxed in last, measured by his fight weight. Advantage: there is no place for any speculations. I like it.
option 2: option 1 and additonal rule - as soon as a bout is announced by both fighters' teams - the boxers are ranked in the divison announced. Disadvantage: maybe object to speculations. Advantage: perhaps represents best up-to-date status
option 3: option 1 and additional rule - if a boxer holds a title in a different division and his last fight was no title fight, then the boxer is still ranked in his title divison. Advantage: also no room for speculations. Disadvantage: not as simple as option 1, perhaps does'nt represent up-do-date status
Best regards
Martin

Why not, good idea. But there would be need for more data fields in the boxers's basic record, I fear.Brett Paul Dunbar wrote:Option 4: Allow a fighter to be ranked in multiple divisons, where appropriate, so for example De La Hoya would appear in both Light Middleweight and Middleweight rankings. Say a fighter is ranked in any divison he has either fought in in the last year, has a fight arranged in or holds a title in.
