R.I.P. Tony Piacente . . .

Post by Rick Farris »

The world of boxing lost one of it's own last month, when former lightweight/welterweight Tony Piacenti, passed away at the age of 91.

Piacenti, who fought out of Herkimer, N.Y. during the 1930's, excited fans up and down the East Coast during his career, particularly in Providence, R.I., Boston and Brockton, Mass. where the hard punching 135-147 pounder captured championships in the Golden Gloves, A.A.U. and Diamond Belt tournaments.

The World Boxing Hall of Fame wishes to express it's sympathy to Piacenti's wife Liz and family. On November 15th, the evening of this years WBHOF annual induction banquet, Tony Piacenti will be remembered and honored, along with other boxing greats who passed away this year.
