FTM PRESS RELEASE DOUBLE HEADER
RENDALL MUNROE has vowed to continue working as a dustman even if he wins a world title.
The working class hero is rapidly becoming one of Britain’s most popular fighters and bang on course to challenge for the world super-bantamweight title in 2009.
Munroe (15-1), is expected to be roared on by a sell-out crowd when he defends his European championship against Armenian, Arsen Martirosian (12-1) at Nottingham’s Harvey Hadden Lesiure Centre tomorrow (fri) night.
Leicester’s Munroe has been given three weeks off from his job to prepare for Martirosian, and wouldn’t swap life as a bin man for any amount of money.
The 28-year-old said: “If I become world champion I’ll still carry on emptying bins as long as I can still get time off to train.
“People tell me I keep my feet on the floor. Why should I be any different however well my boxing is going?
“I keep hearing about world title fights and European defences against Bernard Dunne, but I don’t even give that a thought right now.”
It isn’t in Munroe’s nature to trash an opponent, but is convinced his tough challenger will be put with the rubbish.
He added: “I know little about Martirosian. I’m told he is a smart boxer with plenty of heart. He’ll need more than heart to beat me.”
Munroe’s fans are instantly recognisable by their luminous work coats and even promoter Frank Maloney has vowed to wear one tomorrow night.
Munroe says: “The turning point was signing with Frank last year. He guaranteed me fights at my natural weight.”

JOHN FEWKES is using Martin Gethin as a stepping stone to a crack at British lightweight champion John Murray.
Fewkes (17-0) meets his Walsall rival for the vacant English lightweight title at Nottingham's Harvey Hadden Centre tomorrow (Fri) night when someone's 'O' has to go.
Gethin (14-0-1) scored a huge upset two months ago when he stopped Nadeem Siddique in seven rounds.
Fewkes, 23, predicts he'll come out on top adding: "Gethin is very game and comes to have a fight, but he will need a lot more.
"I believe I have the tools to defeat any of the British lightweights out there and I'm out to prove that."
The winner of the ten-rounder will be on the verge of a shot at British lightweight champion John Murray, who Sheffield's Fewkes is desperate to face.
He said: "I really want to be able to call myself the English champion, but I want a lot more than that.
"After Gethin I definitely want Murray and I'm sure that Glyn Rhodes and Frank Maloney will make sure I am his next mandatory contender.
"I was due to face Murray in an eliminator last year, but he ducked out. He went to win the title so surely my chance is due."
