Have to say, I feel sorry for the lad today, that was as brutal a reality check as you'll ever see.
Sure he thought he was the best about, but that's no bad thing for a boxer - it was the TV and SN hype that pissed us all off more than anything - and in that sense, it was great to see their cynical matching come unstuck last night.

Trouble was the family and "business advisers" around Khan, who know ZERO about boxing, and thought they had the next SRL on their hands. Frank knew the truth though, but events were taken out of his hands by Khan's backers, and his new trainer it seems, who must be about as popular in Bolton right now as a pork chop at a barmitzvah.

Improved Khan's defence??! Then recommends an opponent with a 90% KO record. Bloody hell, he'll be eyeing the next flight out I think...

Khan's KO will only have resulted from one of the following:

(a) He was weight drained - this will never happen again!
(b) The new trainer was a joke, he takes full responsibility, and Khan would never have lost otherwise!
(c) He slipped! :D

In some ways the fact it was a shock knockout aworks in Khan's favour, because it can also be explained away as being lucky (e.g. Hasim Rachman and Lennox Lewis). However, had Prescott simple dealt out a sustained beating over the course of the fight, and Amir was very clearly not up to it - he'd have no where to go would he.

Khan will be back, fighting some useless fighter, who he'll knock out in a round, and then FW & Co will be going hell for leather trying to put all this into distant memory.

Remember Haye v Thompson???? Look at Haye now.....
Yes I remember the fight well. Haye didnt pace himself. He learned from that fight and fought his way up to the top of the CW division. Full credit to the man I cant fault him. Khan is different and you cant compare him with David Haye. Haye had to work his way up to the big paydays whereas Khan has been getting huge money all along. Khan can no longer demand the outrageous money he is used to getting for a fight. Will he be prepared to fight for a quarter or even less? He has been beaten by a nobody not a big name and proved he has a weak chin. I cant see him getting back into the big time. Who in their right mind would pay for PPV to see him beat up a bum.

Shame it wasn't another British fighter that got to do it - like Murray for instance.

A message I got on the Amir Khan board

Post by Exoddus »

After posting something just like this on the Amir Khan fan board.

Topic title: People need to realize that Breidis Prescott isn't world class.

I always compared Amir Khan to Aduley Harrsion. Both fooled the general public to think that they were great.

Amir Khan will have to go for the British title now in hopes to try and rebuild his career. Though he'll get KO'd by Murray anyway. Khan will never be world class. He doesn't have power, he has no movement, he has no chin and no defense.

Amir Khan got wobbled by a JAB. The shot that did the damage was on the temple not the chin.

He's been knocked down by Willie Limond, Michael Gomez and Rachid Drilzane who had 1 TKO from 20 fights... and now KO'd by Breidis Prescott. He dodged Thaxton, Yuri and Murray. We all know why!

This is a SS of the message I got.

Very true, there's no comparison at all Thompson was an experienced old pro who had mixed with quality opposition and had held a 'world' title briefly while Prescott was an unknown quantity.

That about sums up everything that is Amir Khan.

I noticed Warren intimated that there was going to be a lot of talk going on behind the scenes - There is a radio interview with him on the bbc site.

I agree with most - but disagree that Frank KNEW the truth. Why were events taken out of his hand? Khan's contract with Warren had expired all he needed to do was say "sorry Khan don't believe in you that much - I aint renewing".

Plus HE gets the final say on the opponent, where was his match maker Dean Powell who has also worked wth Khan.... why didn't he say "look Khan can't face a puncher".

You don't sign a multi fight / multi million pound deal with someone you don't believe in.

No, you're both misinterpreting the point somewhat.

I wasn't "comparing the fights", I was highlighting the fact that when Haye lost to Thompson it was equally all doom and gloom. Plenty upon plenty of comments on here about Haye being exposed, having nowhere to go, blah blah blah. And the point I was making is - look at him now. World champion and about to launch an assault on the HW division.

People do come back from defeats like this.

Prescott is an unknown quantity, but who knows what he might go on to achieve. You don't, and neither do I.

Frank believed in Khan alright, even a boxer with a shaky chin can go far, as long as he has a good defence. And no doubt Khan's trainer was telling everyone that the defence was being sorted..of course FW wanted to hang onto Khan and his millions of fans, I mean, who else has he got??
But Frank has been around long enough to know that Khan does NOT hold a shot: Willie Limmond told that story.
Just think that a fighter like Prescott is usualy the last type of boxer FW gets for his prospects. He kept Hatton away from punchers pretty much his whole career.
Sky & Khan's people, including his trainer, were the driving force in picking Prescott I reckon. FW had to bite the bullet and hope for the best...

Two things I'd love to have seen:

Frank's meeting with Khan's new trainer, just after the fight. If looks could kill...

The faces of the top brass at Sky, having just gazumped ITV and settling down to watch their new superstar acquisition - what a picture that must have been.

I thought the same thing. I'm glad Khan is okay. I wish this fight would have knocked a bit more sense into him, though. He's still saying he's a World beater.

Shocking stuff really. I think he needs to forget this ‘seek and destroy’ stuff and become a back foot boxer. You cannot put muscles on a chin, but you can protect it. When it gets hit clean he will go in pretty much any decent level fight. Murray would have been too much for him, laughable in the eyes of some 6 months ago but it seems pretty true today. Romanov would have been a nightmare for him.

I think that the guy’s statements in recent months set him up for a fall. That doesn’t mean people should laugh at his fall. We should give him a chance to recoup. He may be similar to Errol Christie, skills to burn but fundamental flaws in the pro game.

Four years of work have just been wiped away; maybe he turned over too early and has learned harsh lessons on the worst possible stage.

I think he needs to have a think. Find some humility. Then comes back to fight the likes of Murray. Try to be the besting the North West first before looking past opponents at guys like Campbell and Casa.

In many ways it is tragicomic.
to think he could have been an olympic gold medallist now.

and basking in the glory of being a double olympic medallist at 21.

instead of that he's knocked out in 54 seconds by someone even us lot had never heard of.

he'll be back of course.

too much money involved to walk away.

it's different with haye though.

he's got that massive punch.

he really is a genuine big hitter and has a chance against anyone because of it.

plus damn good skills.

and we all knew what he did wrong.

it wasn't really a chin problem.

more a case of shooting his load.

but khan just got bushwhacked. :o

I do think people maybe be over analysing this defeat a tad. Khan got whallopped, but by a massive puncher - something Murray isn't.

Khan's chinny yes, no one can dispute this, but he has just faced a massive puncher - how massive we don't know.... but in equal measure to assume Murray would smash Khan, cause a man with an over 90% KO record has - is being possibly a tad harsh on both Khan and Prescott.

What this fight has done as made the Murray fight ALOT more interesting - but I don't think it should automatically mean Murray's going to KO khan the minute he lands a jab.

i was screaming at the tv, i could not believe what i was watching, have not taken so much pleasure oot of someones demise since sprotty laid out audley. some fighters seem to try and get themselves built up bigger than the sport, i heard a rumour that team khan's financial demands were too high for itv to handle, i am absolutely delighted. dont start calling yourself the potentially best in the world when you have not proved your credentials as the best in britain.

it is a shame for khan, i dont thing he is a bad person, just badly advised and managed. unfortunately peoples distain for warren meant that they wanted khan to fall. khan is no naseem hamed, wow.....it was fantastic, im still buzzing now.

the reason khan is badly advised is he has his family involved and they dont have a clue about professional boxing all warren does is get the tv and deals with the press

Oh my god. Are you actually serious???

Mate, its fair enough being a Khan fan and having the opinion that he was going to do well, but are you ever going to accept that Khan just wasn't the goods from day 1 and never will be???

kid are you serious what the eff has ramadan got to do with it? please tell me.
a) im not a kid
b) not saying Ramadan was the reason, saying it may have been a possibility. Since he may have been fasting for the past week, possibly disrupting his diet. I dont know, just saing it could have been a factor

c) Exodus, that "Fan Site" clearly has mostly kids there. DO you expect Brownie points for trolling on kids forums?

He made the right choice turning pro I think. His millions in the bank say so.

I can't believe how fragile his chin turned out to be though. I've been a big supporter of Khan on here, I really thought he had the basic tools to go far - with the obvious question mark being his chin.

But the way it was exposed last night has shattered those illusions!!!

I was out at a party in Bolton last night and when the news went round he'd lost my mates were literally doing cart wheels. I think that says a lot about how much his journey from humble young olympic medallist to cocky and arrogant big time charlie has turned people off him!!
