Where for Cook now? I heard on pre fight interview that he was willing to take on stable mate Kevin Mitchell if he won and if the money was right, I think this will be a good domestic fight but on Cook's performance tonight having moved up a weight and previous form of Mitchell I would say Cook would have to much for him.

All the talk has obviously been about Khan, but just wanted to start a thread congratulating Nicky Cook.

I've been a big fan of Nicky since he won the commonwealth a few years back, and was gutted when he lost to Leuvano. I think that fight highlights his level (although he could be better at SF), but was really nice to see him come back and box so well to win the title clearly. (O'Connor - what the f@ck was he scoring - certainly tried his best to help mr warren out last night, didn't he... allegedly, ofcourse )

Arthurs heart really didn't look to be in it after mid-way, when he realised it wasn't going to be easy, and some of the things he was saying in the corner were very strange considering it was mid fight, and he wasn't getting hammered.

Still, Nicky came in with a plan, and executed it brilliantly.

Made up for him and his dad..... hopefully now, he can cash in and make a few quid for however long he holds on to the title.

Brilliant win for Cook but this isn't much of a shock really because Arthur has been absolutely awful in recent fights.

I'd agree with that to a certain extent, but Cook was soundly outboxing him early on too, when he was fresh. Towards the end when he started acting a little strange, I think something was definately up... possibly feeling the effects of the weight, who knows.

BUT,

Nicky could only fight his game, and had no control over the other guy. He and his dad came up with a plan, and he went in and followed it, boxing very well. He was the better man for most of the fight, including the start, when AA was fresh.

I like Alex, seems like a good guy.... I hope he can come back, but he needs to make sure his head is in it.... something I'm not convinced of after last night.

After seeing Cook vs Luevano I thought he had found his level - lets catch ourselves up a little.... it should have been Arthur losing to Guzman in there. Arthur was given the belt, never got the chance to properly earn the belt against its owner, and I think that as others here have said - it won't be too long until Cook loses it again.

Cook is a local lad from not far away, his dad lives in my town, and I say congratulations to him on his win. I hope his next defence is well paid, he deserves some proper money.

Yeah, the Khan situation has overshadowed Cookie's achievement. Alex looked pretty jaded but Nicky bossed it from the start.
He trains bloody hard and i understand he is one of the very fittest British boxers there is. The Khan situation and Audley stinking it out again means that this WBO belt could be his biggest money maker so hopefully Cook will get plenty of in-house work. Foster followed by Mitchell.

Hang on though isn't Mitchell trained by Paul Cook too?

That's right. On Bunce's Boxing Hour the other day, Kev said, if Cook won the WBO, he'd go the IBF route as he and Nicky are big mates (and sparring partners) and wouldn't want to fight each other.

I said earlier I liked Alex.... but those comments are dissapointing. He was clearly beaten by the better man, he knew it during the last few rounds of fight - as he showed in both his body language, and his behaviour in the corner.. and at the end of the fight.

Thats pretty classless to be honest... "3 english judges in england" If it was close and he genuinly thought he'd done enough, then thats one thing, but he knows full well he was beaten.

He was more concerned with kissing and stroking Nicky Cook at the final bell to 'see the people shocked at the decision at ringside'.

"Me and Arthur are going for a meal in a few weeks" said Cook afterwards.

I'm not gonna get too hung up on his comments, afterall, he gave me perhaps the funniest and entertaining night of domestic boxing ever when Michael Gomez smashed him to pieces.

His gormless, blood splattered face smiling up at the camera was priceless

Beaten fair and square, just sour grapes. I have always liked and been a supporter of AAA so I would have liked to see him win, but he didnt. Cookie fought the fight sticking to the gameplan they had and it paid off. Arthur isnt finished yet, but being a world champion again is very unlikely. Khan v Arthur let the thought pass team Khan.
