The Vitali-Sanders ppv anyone?

Post by CerberuS »

Is anyone going to buy this ppv card? I really want to see vitali vs sanders but the undercard is god damn awful  . I also saw that the Sky coverage starts at 2am...so i doubt they will be showing any of the previous weeks fights either. Im not sure its worth buying anymore.

I have a problem.

First I said yes defo I'll buy the PPV cause this is Vitali v Corrie after all, a heavyweight fight sure to have fireworks. Then I said hang on no undercard? Nah forget it, the main event might last 1 round and then I'll feel a mug.

NOW I see that the Skelton v Sprott card is only being shown once (live)on Sky Sports so the only repeats will no doubt be on the box office show. I'm out saturday night but can't tape the Sprott fight as at least one of my boxing-disliking flatmates will be in and I can't expect them to sit and watch that for 2 hours.

So it might be that I have to book this sodding PPV just to be able to see any boxing at all this weekend.

I've written this somewhere else :

The undercard to the KLITSCHKO-SANDERS fight Sucks!!!!

What is this shit!

Staples Center, Los Angeles, California Saturday 24th April 2004

Ticketing Information (213) 742-7340

Heavyweight Vitali Klitschko v Corrie Sanders 12
L Middleweight Vernon forrest v Teddy Reid 10
Heavyweight Taras Bidenko v ? 8
L Welterweight Lucia Rijker v Lisa Holewyne 8
Super Flyweight Jose Navarro v Martin Toluco Armenta 8
S Middleweight Mario Veit v ? 8
L Middleweight Carlos Bojorquez v Gilbert Jackson 0
Heavyweight Osborne Mashimane v ? 6
L Middleweight Ahmed Kaddour v ? 0

This is one of the poorest undercards for a big title fight I can remember, especially when there's a good chance that the main event could last a couple of rounds at best!

I mean Teddy reid and Vernon Forrest are over the hill, forget Lucia Rijker as I can't stand women's boxing and the rest are unknowns going nowhere.

This should have been a big night for boxing and a great showcase for up and coming boxer's as it was gonna crown a new LINEAR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION. The fact that they've spent so little on the undercard is just plain WRONG and seems like the promoters aint bothered about the future of boxing but just grabbing money off the main event.

I would have loved to have seen a whole bunch of young up and coming Heavyweights like David Rodriguez, Eddie Chambers, Samuel Peter and Alex Dimetrenko than the shit they've put on the undercard!

All I can say is I hope the Klitschko/Sanders fight is a classic!

Yeah, this is ordinary. Sky-TV must take us for right mugs. I'm looking forward to Sprott-Skelton far more than Klitschko-Sanders.

this is very bad for boxing.

shame on sky. who the hell is going to see this fight, in the end? i would like to see this fight but no way is it worthy of PPV. how sad they are without lennox and still pushing their PPV, hellbent on ruining boxings little remaining popularity.

probably a few hundred die hards will see this in the UK.

I agree IF they show those fights. BUT with the coverage kicking off at 2am it looks unlikely :(

you could say it's worthy of PPV simply because its THE heavyweight world title fight, and how many of those come along these days? twice a year at best. having said this-

its not worth it.

Vitali vs Sanders is nothing more than to elect a "paper champion" until a decent heavyweight appears.

The division sucks, the undercard is dire, and this is one PPV I definitely won't be getting.... :x

Nope, I also will not be buying it. Like mentioned earlier,SKY must think we are stupid mugs, shame on them!
This will be the 1st ever boxing PPV that I'll be ditching! :(

Did someone mention that this matchup will be shown in the clear on some German digital/satellite channel,if so any info?

They may show some action from the Don King bill, last time they had a weak undercard they showed Freitas-Barrios from a previous week at the start before going live to the undercard, possibly they could do similar?

I reckon it's more likely they'll show a re-run of Sprott v Skelton.

I think it's a shame so many people are not bothering with Sky's latest PPV effort.
It means next time we probably wont even get a choice - which, you have to admit, is better than them not offering it at all.
De La Hoya v Hopkins might not even get shown here...

I think they'll show last week's NY bill as part of the PPV.
Darke and Watt were missing from the Belfast bill, which makes you think they were covering the NY show maybe?

Can't same I blame people not buying this one - the main event is excellent, but the undercard sucks big time.

We all would have paid for Oscar-Mosley 2 and other main events but not for something that is ONLY PPV OVER HERE!!

It's not even PPV in Germany.

Does anybody know when it will be on SKY? I know that Tyson-Ettiene was on on the Tuesday after it was shown on Saturday. 3 days to see it for free!

Just because nobody buys Klit sanders dosent mean DLH BHOP wont be shown, thats going to be the fight of the century do far I'd imagine. Hopkins will sytematically beat the 5hit out of hoya though.

I wont be buying the PPV this weekend because the undercard is non-existant and the fight prob wont last 5 rds. Interesting to see the pundits say that on ringside last week "I can see it beig over early" etc...
Wonder how sky will persuade people to buy it this thursday...

I can't see that happened. They KNOW Vitali vs Sanders has limited appeal, and therefore they can only expect limited purchase.

Oscar vs Hopkins has HUGE appeal, and they KNOW they will get plenty of purchases in this country and everywhere else. It'll definitely be on offer.

Frankly, I think they are just trying it on with Vitali vs Sanders.

I can't quite figure how you see it as a "shame" people aren't bothering with it..

Personally I've never felt it a shame that X million dollars isn't making its way to fat cat networks, for the mere provision of a sporting contest...unless you are one of their employees or something?

Perhaps they'l even realise that

(a) They should show less on PPV, only the shows with huge public interest, providing more free coverage, which in turn will benefit the sport by increasing its exposure, and in turn popularity.

(b) They should lower the PPV prices.

Who knows... its all in our hands as the consumers... power to the people and all that!

Were you happy that Sky didn't show Hopkins/Trinidad then? That was a pretty big fight too.
My point is, wouldn't you have prefered that they at least offered it on PPV, as an alternative to not showing it at all?
