It has never helped his cause being as high profile as he was - fighters should have to earn it in the right way. Topping the bill from day one is a cautionary tale that other medalled high profiled amateurs turning over would best learn very early in their careers.

Maybe, but I was watching Whitaker's first fights the other day, and he was aired on network TV with the other '84 medalists all fighting. It was one big showcase. Khan's problem is he doesn't and has never had the defence to mix it at the top level.

I have a tape from one of 'the class of '84' bills somewhere. Being only a few years younger than the 17/18 years that won gold that year I have to say they looked absolutely accomplished and polished even then. Whitaker became an ATG and Taylor was very special too. Not to mention what Holyfield went onto achieve.

You have to remember that America is a large country competing nationwide amongst other high profile sports and their sporting heroes actually have to achieve before they reach a similar acclaim. Ours is a small country and any achievement can be blown out of all proportion if there is an angle - ie very young precocious talent.

You certainly can. I think it depends on who KOs you. Some of Prescotts opponents were not even journeymen, quite a few had not even won a fight. It was a bad loss. Had he been beaten by someone with a good record who had beaten top class fighters fair enough. Yes, Khan is young and he can be taught to feel his way into a fight instead of charging in as he does. He can be taught better defense also. At the elite level these things really matter but so does taking a punch, and he cant. He may rise to Euro level but I dont see him going further. Once Khan realises this I can see him packing it in. He is far too ambitious to settle for a Euro title.

Its a tricky one... Khan should be looking at doing a Wladimir - but he does that then his box office appeal with go right down.

I can see what you are getting at Syntax E, but I'm not so sure it would work for Amir Khan, as others have pointed out.

Although you are right to cite Camacho's change of style, he still had an excellent chin.

Khan on the other hand, he looks like he has a balsa wood chin & even if he were to adopt a running style, he's still liable to be tagged at some point & I doubt whether he could take it.

Khan is the new Errol Christie: sensational out of the amateurs, turned pro & looked like a future world beater, but then his champagne glass chin started letting him down & the rest is (you know how the cliche goes)!

It would be an interesting fight to watch I think. Kotelnik has a good defence but little power. That punch that knocked out Rees was because Rees walked straight onto it after trying to know Kotelnik out. If Khan used the ring and his feet well then he would win a decision for me - if he runs in (ala Prescott) then he will get caught and probably knocked out as Kotelnik is very accurate. But like I say, I think if Khan boxes well and leaves his macho side at home then he will win a decision, especially in England.
