A real shame as any of these fights would be good.Especially though, I would like to see Junior Witter get his chance at Ricky Hatton, because quite frankly, I think Junior will beat him.
All due respect is that cos you herald from Sheffield. We sit here quite rightly criticising Hatton for not fighting the calibre of opponents that we would like Hatton to taking on (even tho we dont know who his next opponent is) but come on Witter has been fighting B grade European fighters for the past two years what in gods name makes ya think he would beat hatton, other than the much quoted "he has a difficult style".

Witters "world class" opposition in the past two years.

My opinion comes from being a boxing fan.Junior would quite literally fight anyone in that division.Who was his promoter for the last few years? FW.He is responsible for getting Junior his fights.Junior offered To fight Hatton recently, very not that much money, and was turned down.It was a genuine offer.

I make my assumption that Junior will beat hatton on this: He is a much bigger puncher, a more accurate puncher and has faster foot and hand speed. Also, a greater arrange of skills as well.

Regarding hatton's oppostion, you have to admnit 35 fights is a very long apprentiship against the stevie smith's, pedersons and the rios's of the world.

I actually like hatton as a fighter and a bloke. He comes over very well and is very taleneted- world class.I am just frustrated that his promoter has messed junior around so much and is stalling Hatton's career as well.

I think he just milking the cash cow and has absolutely no intention of jeapodising that in any way.If had, junior would have boxed Hatton by now.

I know, it's bloody laughable isn't it, Witter has faced off against a motley crew of B-list fighters since losing to Judah, his high point since then has been frigging Giuseppe Lauri!

The criticisms levelled at Hatton seem strangely not to be applied to Witter, perhaps because Witter hasn't the profile to attract criticism.

Tracers work both ways...

agreewd mate totally inconsistent Im afraid.
at least hattons career is going forwards albeit somewhat more slowly than we all would like, Witters is stagnating at best resorting to shouting his mouth off whe he knows there is no chance of a match being made at 2 days notice.
Laughable.
The old british tradition of supporting the underdog / knocking the top dog goes too far in some cases.

Well, Junior was about to fight for the European Title last week until that all fell through for reasons WELL beyond his control.Once he gets that belt though, you can be assured that he will be fighting and beating plenty of top, world rated fighters.

As for Hatton. The reason why I level this critism is this.He could have obxed Junior Witter any time he would have liked- never happened.

He was offered Floyd Mayweather.Turned it down.

Sharmba Mitchell, clearly wanted it.It could have been done like that. Now ithat has fallen through as well.

Junior would take a fight with any of the aforementioned.

Hwe injured his hand. This was proved to the board of control. Why should he go through with any fight with an injured hand.

Also, his showing against Zab judah was not a poor performance. It may not have been exciting to watch. But he still boxed brilliantly to make a world class, pound for pounder misss and look ordinary, when he clearly isn't.
As it happens, I think Zab Judah would box Ricky Hatton's head off- may be stop him in the process.

Yes Witter has fought a collection of stiffs too, but at least Sky and co don't try and pass him off as a "world champion", and he doesn't feature in heavily hyped U.S televised main events either.
If he did, then he'd get just as much critism as Hatton for his level of opponents.
Hatton's people market him as world class ( he's even called world champ in certain Manchester pubs I believe ) and the biggest attraction in the UK, ready for Gatti, Tszyu...you name it. "Ready to be let off the leash" etc etc.
As long as FW keeps putting him in with blown up lightweights, 6 foot featherweights and 40 year old crack addicts he deserves all the critisism he gets.

This is professional boxing, where there's money involved, business has to come first. You yourself admit that Witter is a very dangerous opponent, so why should Warren risk Britain's biggest ticket seller for a comparitively low gain?

There are much bigger matches that carry about the same risk. The public are starting to get bored with Hatton being protected, and Warren will soon have to step up his opposition, for commercial reasons.

Also Hatton won't last forever and Warren will have to risk him in a big fight against a legitimeta World Champ soon, as if HAtton wins, the payoff will be huge.

But Witter does not bring enough to the table for Warren to risk Ricky.

Also it could be argued Witter hasn't done himself any favours - he is monstrously arrogant, and not likeable - his behaviour after the Thaxton-HAtton fight was inexcusable. He is not a ticket seller and has few fans. He will only make money by fighting Hatton, and many don't believe he should be given the chance given his attitude.

yeah he has a past record of backing up his mouth with his actions :o

I cant be arsed to go over the reasons why mitchell didnt happen. Lets just put it in a nutshell and say money difficulties on both sides for the sake of argument.

As for Floyd you cant turn someone down when negotiations take place, floyd is gunning for gatti not hatton.

Actually, Junior is one of the most likeable and approachable people I know.He comes accross as arrogant on tv, because he is trying to fight his corner and sell promote himself.Something that was'nt been done for him.

You say boxing is a business and therefore try and get as much money as possible.Well, for a long time, Fw promoted both them and did'nt do that for Junior. That to me is inexcusible.

If you are satisfied by the product you are being given, then cary on buying it be all means.
But, I am very sure that the public won't accept it for too much offer. Also, it stops boxing from being a mainstream sport. The average fan just don't beleive in it anymore. They don't like the bad desicions and the excuses coming out of certain promoters mouths when straightforward fights are'nt made in favour of a powder puff fighter from a lower divsion .They chose to watch football instead, rather than watching both.

Hatton admitted that he was offered it and that they turned it down.Saying it will happen a couple of years down the line.I bet it won't.

dude come on people are offered lots of fights, doesnt mean they are serious negotiations does it.

otherwise everytime someone trash talks someone else is that an offer thats turned down.....?
Sorry if I appear pro hatton here but you are so biased towards Witter who has done f*ck all for over two years now other than blagg to the press how he would take the hitman out.
He needs to do something to MAKE hatton fight him not just keep gobbing off and fighting much lower grade opponents than the likes of Tackie, Philllips or Pedersen for that matter. Apply the same rules to your own before slagging of Hatton.

I am glad he is not with FW anymore. Now he can get on with his career and get some big fights.

He made Zab Judah miss for twelve rounds. Not an easy thing to do.Incidently, if the boxed now.He would likely stop Zab Judah.

The good thing is, I can see a time soon, when Hatton gets beat and Junior scalps some big names.I am sure then, that peoples tunes will change.

so do I wish him all the best, he jkust is not at hattons level right now

He made him miss cos he was skating round the top rope on a pair of stilts most the fight, judah couldnt reach him

if and buts and maybes at present but fair enough til then admit you are talking shit then.   Correct me if Im wrong but we are talking in this thread about 6 weeks away not when hatton gets beat and if junior does this or that.
Its an easy thing to say really, when hatton fails witter's status will rise if he has kept winning, thanks for that mate haha

I'm sure if Ricky sprinted around the ring full pelt all night and cowered and covered up every time Judah tried to hit him, Hatton could survive 12 rounds with Judah. There's no pride to be had in that performance from Witter I'm afraid, he fought totally negatively all night.

I have nothing against Witter, I think he is a talented, but ultimately unproven fighter whose best wins have been against European level fighters. To date he has not faced anyone approaching Hatton's class, nor has he beaten anyone as dangerous as Tackie or Phillips even.

And you will have to excuse people's scepticism, but a lot of people find it hard to swallow that Witters injury co-incides with the announcement that he is in line for a European title shot, rather than taking on a dangerous and unknown quanitity in Pinto.

I am not saying it is entrirely Witter's fault that he hasn't been able to prove himself, of course he doesn't matchmake his own fights.

I hope he gets his title shot and wins and goes on to prove himself a world class fighter, but he cannot expect to do it off of Hatton's coat-tails. Hatton really doesn't need Witter any more, but he does need a decent opponent.

Are'nt you the least bit dissapointed that none of the good british fights come off- Takaloo - Wayne Alexanda , or Richard Williams or Steve Roberts never happend and that Hatton - Witter has never come off.Don't you feel even slightly cheated.

Still, its the big one on saturday. It could alter the face of the Heavyweight Landscape: Skelton v Sprott.Thankyou Sports Network.

haha yeah of course we are mate, who wouldnt be, but it seems to be the nature of the beast these days, keep em seperate and earning dollar you know.

Is that a tongue in cheek comment? Sprott / Skelton? Its good decent match but not gonna change the face of the division. Still reckon Aud would beat either of them tho but good decent competetive fight for sure.

lets talk lennox mate I defo would agree with you judging by your name

Personally, I'm not that concerned about domestic level competition.

I believe that if a fighter is genuinely world class, and has world class ambitions, then the domestic scene can be a mire which drags them down. The domestic level fights get so little exposure these days, and there's not a lot of money in it, and I don't see boxing returning to some golden era where the TV is filled with with saturday and sunday slots featuring british title fights, it's just not going to happen in today's climate where sport is truly global.

I'd rather than Hatton and Witter (for instance) both went on to capture versions of the world title and THEN fought eachother.

indeed i agree but there is a flip side, when these guys arent world class as the light middles have been shown to be just short, then we do miss out on some domestic cracking fights,
The Williams / Takaloo / Stone /Alexander / Roberts would have made compelling viewing. In a juxtaposition to this look at the super feathers and the classic Gomez Arthur there, rematch I do hope so, not just that bout but good lads coming through who should eventually be matched docherty / Rees / johannesson etc).

Hatton is far past this stage in my opinion. I cant see witter winning a "real"world title sorry I just cant. Its not the skills I just dont think he has the minerals.

Hatton can and will I believe.

My comment was tongue and cheek, although I am sure that it will be quite a good scrap.I agree, Audley would be too polished a fighter for them.I thin Audley is beginning to look like a real fighter now.I think training in america has been a very good move.

Are you a lennox fan like myself? Such a great, great fighter. It is very frustrating that many people don't value his achievements.

What do you think of manny stewards comments that Lennox let the public down by retireing.I don't think I like Emanuel Steward that much.he seems to jump ship to whoever is paying him the most.Lennox had nothing to gain by fighting on.

I am looking forward to sats fight tho, could be a good one.
Sprotts superior boxing vs Skletons superior strength.
could be a Brit classic.

yeah I am HUUUUGE LENNOX fan, never missed a fight on ppv, ged rid of the missus boys round BBQ in the eve few bevs and early hours screaming at the tv cant beat...aaaah I miss it already haha!

Yeah history will judge him more kindly than most people think, as it has over time to Holmes.

Steward shoud just shut up, when he was still with Lennox he was saying lets yeah he has proved it all, next min he is with Vitali saying oh no he cheated us all out a rematch.

Whatever Manny stick to training on recent evidence you need to.
