The word is that Joe Mesi suffered a blood clot on the brain after the Vassiliy Jirov fight and will never fight again.

So its not general knowledge or come from close to the mesi camp?

i just hope its not true thats all, not too keen on him as a fighter but its not too good for the image of boxing as a whole and you shouldnt wish it on anyone.

This is terrible news if it turns out to be true.

If your a fan or not he's still a young fighter just earning a living for himself and following a dream.

If it is true I hope they can treat him to save his health even if it means the end of a promising/lucrative career.

sounds like bullshit to me.

horrible if it is true, poor joe, but as far as boxing goes he had already found his limit. and it wasn't very far.

Maybe Mesi is the "top heavyweight contender with a serious health condition " (I'm paraphrasing) ESPN's Teddy Atlas was referring to in his cryptic quote of a few weeks ago.

I want to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, he seems like such a decent bloke. Having said that, the constant bullshit stories that are used by people surrounding fighters to explain away losses or poor performances have made me very cynical about this type of rumour.
If this rumour turns to fact then i'll wish Mesi all the best for his life outside boxing, but my gut feeling is that his camp have made their money and are now making their excuses.

You really think they would make up a story like that just because they have made their money

I really would not like to think anyone could sink that low.

Surely they would (and I believe do) realise he is an improving fighter who could continue to do well in a relatively wide open division.

This rumour must have come from elsewhere.

He may have been referring to Wladimir Klitschko, or Mesi.
