How far can Rendall Munroe go?
Rendall seems like a really nice guy. There was a piece on him in last week's BN & in the latest edition of Boxing Monthly. He seems like a very humble guy.
It appears he trains really hard. Munroe is massive for 122lbs.
I hope he becomes world champion, but can he achieve that?

Re: How far can Rendall Munroe go?
I really like Rendall but I don't think he'll ever become a world champ. I think he just had Martinez's number - tall, south-paw and very fit. I would love him to fight Dunne next but I would expect the Irish man to come out on top. I hope I am wrong on both counts as Munroe is a throughly likable man. He's probably got to his peak now with the EBU belt - perhaps a few more decent defences?
Re: How far can Rendall Munroe go?
I would have to agree, alot though would depend on the champion. I am unfamiliar with the aisians fighting for the WBC title, and the WBA title seems to be in a bit of a state with interim and geniune champions.
Molitor and Lopez will be way too good. Although I think Munroe would cause Molitor more problems than Hunter did.... he is less vulnerable.

Euro level at best.
Has exellant fitness, handspeed and workrate, but he pitty patters his flurries too much and lacks power.

lol Max, thought you liked that style, considering that's what Calzaghe has resorted to these days.Max Molyneux wrote:Euro level at best.

Re: How far can Rendall Munroe go?
I can't imagine Rendall has too many fights left at 122lbs anyways.
Re: How far can Rendall Munroe go?
I hope he earns a packet defending that belt and tries to have a long reign.
Too often they get the world ranking on account of being European champion and then they get beat.

He is massive at 122 but I would be confident that dunne will beat him if munroe and maloney stop sidestepping.

Calzaghe has more than that. Plus Calzaghe dominates them while Munroe doesn't and was struggling with htta Frenchman until the Frenchie got Injured and pulled out.

You should read up on your stuff before you post silly comments, Munroe isn't side stepping Dunne, Munroe is the champion so Dunne will have to come to England not the other way round, Dunne didn't want to fight Munroe when Dunne was champion !

Cancel washing your hair and the manicure Shitman, and watch the kid.
Re: How far can Rendall Munroe go?
During Dunne's time as champion Munroe was between 10-1 and 12-1, he hadn't even won the English Super-Bantamweight title at that stage and in his only major bout he had lost to Andy Morris. I'm actually fairly certain he wasn't ranked by the EBU back then anyway, at least not at Super-Bantamweight.mark thompson wrote:metropol wrote:He is massive at 122 but I would be confident that dunne will beat him if munroe and maloney stop sidestepping.

The thing is if Dunne goes to England to fight Munroe they'll be fighting in a leisure centre in front of about 2,000 people on SKY on a Friday night.
If the fight were to take place in Ireland it could happen in front of 10,000 people at prime time, on Ireland's main television network(who will pay more than Sky will for a domestic boxing fight).
The fight just doesn't make financial sense in Britain, if it was about the champion fighting at home then Esham Pickering wouldn't have gone to Hartlepool to defend against Michael Hunter but he went where the money was.
It's not like Ireland has a history of robbing fighters either, if Munroe did enough to win a decision here then he'd be given the decision.
The fight could probably generate 4 times as much money over here, it just doesn't make sense to have it in the UK.

Re: How far can Rendall Munroe go?
Definitely Euro level. If he steps up to world he'll go the same way as Hunter (not that there's any shame in that - Hunter gave a creditable performance in losing against a superior fighter.)
Re: How far can Rendall Munroe go?
I think Dunne beats him - he seems to lack decent footwork. That Armenian was good but Rendall made him look awesome. Perhaps if 'the Armenian' (can't spell his name) kept up the pressure then maybe Munroe wouldn't even be EBU champion now. It's also not the first struggle Munroe has had with this belt - Bouaita dealt with him easily enough in those opening rounds before Rendall got ahold of him. One thing for sure though, he's does need to be able to get himself in-and-out with more fluidity.
I had it 115-113 to Munroe but had it even after the 10th.

Re: How far can Rendall Munroe go?
He is a decent European level fighter, and on home soil will beat most of the contenders including Bernard Dunne. At world level he will get exposed like Michael Hunter was by Steve Molitor.
I'm sure Maloney knows how to match him, and if someone lively comes along at 8st 10lb, he'll try and get the kid a world title shot and payday.

The fight could take place at the walkers stadium, and if it was marketed properly could easily sell 10,000 tickets, Munroe is building a good following from Leicester !

I thought Hunter's performace against Molitor was quite poor to be honest. I don't remember Hunter coming away from that fight with much credit.glahn wrote:Definitely Euro level. Then why was he defending his belt in front of what looked like between 800-1,300 people ?
That was a card which had two English title fights, Matthew Hatton fighting and 10 fights in all, including Munroe's European title fight and it was in front of a pretty meagre crowd. I know tickets were still available the night before the fight and I'm not sure if they did sell out.
Now maybe they would be planning on the Irish crowd selling out the venue for them but if that's the case then why not have it in Ireland ?
While I'm sure Munroe's fanbase could increase, not by those dimensions and there is a much greater chance of selling out the 14,000 seater New Point Depot than getting 10,000 into the Walkers stadium.
Dunne has managed to attract an audience of 607,000 viewers for either the Pickering or the Martinez fight and just under that for whichever one it wasn't. He got over a quarter of a million people to watch him boxing an 8 rounder in Italy against a journeyman, on delayed coverage at 0:30 at night.
RTÉ probably won't be willing to let him go unless they could get the Irish rights to a fight in England should Maloney actually manage to agree one there. There are a lot of obstacles in this and in the main they are caused by the fight making less money in the UK.
I'd still like to see it happen though, even if Dunne does have to go across the Irish Sea.

Re: How far can Rendall Munroe go?
BIG EARS !!!
Dunne probably gets such a big following for an average fighter because the Irish boxing scene is pretty poor at the moment you have to admit, you don't really have any top 20 world ranked fighters at the moment do you ? Dunne has fought only 2 decent fighters Pickering who he could only beat on points and Kiko who knocked him out Prescott style in round 1.
Dunne is no doubt a bigger puncher than Munroe but i think Munroe would have the measure of him around round 4,5 then out box him comfortably for an unanimous points victory whether it be in England or Ireland.
