How about the Audley Harrison fight earlier? Loads of boos for opponent at the start, which changed to resounding cheers for him at the end. Very fickle.

I concur completely. A Farce was pathetic. At least it provided an opportunity to get a drink from the bar. :)

That performance wont earn Harrison a decent fight next, and he will get even less respect from boxing fans than he had before the fight, and that wasnt much. Add to that his stupid, pathetic excuses about not seeing videos and to my mind he is going nowhere. How did fighters go on before the 1980s and the availibility of VCRs, the best they could do was attend opponents fights and watch them in action. Harrison fought the way he always fights, he will never change.

Though to be fair, it was just as likely it was the fans who were booing him in, doing the same on his way out, rather than his fans suddenly switching over. Don't often see that in the UK, we love a good loser!

No they did switch. Arias bowed in every direction to the crowd and got cheers. When Harrison put his arms up for praise he got booed.

My word we have some real tosh going on on this thread don't we.
First, anyone that will part with their cash to watch Audley Harrison box doesn't have any business moaning about the complete lack of entertainment, aside from those who are exempt - see exemptions*

I don't buy a lot of this garbage about Khan. He's done well, put himself into creditable Silver Medal position in an Olympic games in which he was the only British boxer bloody well good enough to be there - what did you all think would happen to him? He'd be allowed to quietly go about boxing his way around the small halls. Get real. This young man or "kid" as some of the boxing genii on here like say, has had the spotlight well and truly thrust upon him from day one. His "crime" is his ability - he has the potential to go very far but he is only human like everybody else. I have seen Khan on TV loads of times, the only thing that rankled with me was his repeated misdemeanors behind the wheel of a car. Yeah he might have dissed the odd opponent but anyone with a braincell would see that for what it was, and not something borne of an inherently disrespectful attitude. In interview after interview I have seen Khan come across as humble, praising of his opponents and general good ambassador for the sport.
So he might not make a world champ, maybe he will and it will take a bit longer than he wanted - so what. He has as much right to shoot for it as anybody else except in his case he has more right than people on here who were "glad" to see him get flattened from the comfort of their lardy arses, or "sorry for him" and "concerned for his safety" after willing him to get smashed up.
It's a lot of sh*te in short.
Pick yourself up Amir, dust yourself down, and get back on with it - and you know what? He will do, because that's what separates him from folk that come on here and talk dirge for their kicks.

I didnt buy the PPV my son in law did and being half Scottish he got it to see Arthur, who we both like. I think the ref did a pretty poor job protecting Khan who a blind man could see was in a mess. I am convinced Khan is truly humble as I am Hatton really cares about his fans. Khan is still young and the media have helped him believe for years that being a world champion is his destiny. So he talks about Thaxton and Murray as if they were nothing and says he has bigger fish to fry saying he could beat Pac man and Diaz. I dont call that being humble. He put peoples backs up and when he got KOd by a guy not even in the top 100 who nobody had even heard of so many were pleased he had been brought back to reality. He wanted/demanded the wages of a champion while only little better than a prospect and the only way he could be paid that money was to go on PPV. I suppose he cant be blamed entirely for his cocky attitude, the media made him a star while he was still a boy and not surprisingly it went to his head. I dont really want to see him disgraced again or even worse damaged for life. Harrison was on the bill, what should we have done sat in the kitchen while he was on? I just want to see fighters do their best and put on a good show and Harrison never does. Arthur/Cook was a good fight, the best of the night and the better man won.

I agree with Wild Waylon completely on his points above. I did not and would not pay to see Audley. I paid to see Arthur and Khan. I also did not sit on my lardy arse at home, I got off it and went to the MEN Arena.

Khan has been referred to as a kid as that is how he has behaved, and lets face it at 21 he is still a young adult, who as a kid would, has been influenced by others who should know better. I met Khan at the Don Valley stadium when Hatton fought Maussa. He was a sweet unassuming young man. Very polite and very obliging. A far cry from the cocky persona he has developed of late - not to mention his irresponsible behaviour outside of the boxing circuits.

So, NorthEastBoxing Fan, as I am from planet Earth and human, I was pleased Khan got a reality check on Saturday, but that does not mean that I would wish him any permanent damage. After O'Connor failed to stop the fight after Khan's first knockdown, from which he did not really recover, Khan was put at risk of being seriously injured on a more permanent basis. I would have derived no pleasure from that at all - hence my relief when Amir rose to his feet.
