Duran Vs Mayweather/Money

Post by Ross »

Both retired - so who wins and how?

Could M have out slicked Duran, a bigger stronger and as fast SRL couldnt the first time. So I think that M would fight off the back foot and Duran would come forward snearng and snortng and viciously tear him apart realishing in the fight it would be like Duran Leonard 1 only with a stoppage win for Duran over 15 rounds.

Your thoughts?

I don't think Duran would stop Mayweather, but he'd definitely land a lot more often than Floyd would like. Duran was very quick himself with his hands and feet and would've constantly waded in and blasted Floyd. Duran's style would've given Mayweather hell. Floyd's saving grace would be that he would get hit more often but still not always cleanly and he'd be able to catch Duran at times too, but Duran would win a wide decision in the end, the way a tail-end of his prime Duran managed to lure the bigger, quicker, and stronger Leonard into his fight then beat him essentially puts the obvious writing on the wall for this one. Duran wins a wide decision possibly with a knockdown or two on Floyd who gets caught off guard by just how strong AND fast Duran is.

I don't think that the great Floyd Mayweather, Jr. would have beaten guys of the caliber of the great Ken Buchanan and Esteban DeJesus.

PBF was a great jr. lightweight...That is about it.

PBF would be too cautious-safety first fighter. You can't fight a guy like Duran like that. Duran by decision.

Leonard did. But, yes, I would say Duran by decision.

"Mayweather by KO" shouldn't even be an option; probably a physical impossibility.

Duran by clear decision, perhaps knockout. Jose Luis Castillo's pressure gave Mayweather hell, and Duran was a much higher calibre fighter.

Aye yi yi yi

Duran drop kicks Money right out of the ring, at lightweight.

The better question is Whitaker vs Mayweather.....how does that one end up? ONce again at lightweight. Or do they both back out of the ring on their own volition?

Don't get me wrong I like Whitaker.

Mayweather would never stand and fight like Leonard in Montreal. He wouldn't even hit and run like Leonard in Montreal.
He would just cry.

Mayweather may not be comparable to Duran, I have doubts that Mayweather is even the best fighter of this decade, but he deserves a bit more credit than that.

Hmmm . . .funny how the large number of people voting for Floyd aren't putting down how and why that would happen . . .

Mayweather is a great talent, but Castillo showed in their first fight that he can be beaten with effective pressure. I thought Castillo clearly won the first fight, Mayweather deserved the second. Castillo was no Duran. Duran at lightweight was a beast and would have worn down even a fighter as talented as Mayweather, scoring a 13th or 14th round TKO

Duran would win but I doubt he gets a stoppage win. Mayweather does not strike me as the sort to go all out if behind. I wouldm imagine that instead he fights more defensively. Loses on his feet and minimises the damage.

Duran would have given him a beating. Floyd would probably quit in his corner. :box:

Duran would have beat him via decision, though I would like to say he'd win it comfortably, he wouldn't. Mayweather was a great fighter, though I wouldnt say he was an ATG, had he faced greater opposition, taken greater chances, to set himself father apart from the fighters of his own generation, he could have been one...Duran, whether you loved him or hated him, was and still is a top five all time great fighter, right behind Robinson, Armstrong, Pep and Langford...he was the greatest lightweight of all time, and he stayed a contender up until his retirement at the age of 50, though albiet he wasnt fighting top 10-20 men any more.

The decision would have been close, but unaminous, whether it be 12 rounds or 15, Mayweather would have given Duran alot of trouble and fits, but the Hands of Stone was balls to the walls every moment of every round throughout most of his career...I cant say the same for "Money" Mayweather.

Sugar Ray Robinson, vs, Roy Jones, Jr @ 175 over 15 rounds
