Cotto shows Hatton how to do it...
Cotto has apparently signed to fight Lovemore N'Dou on May 8 (some bill this is shaping up to be). While one the one hand I am delighted that such a fight has been made I am also slightly embarrassed in as much as Cotto, a pro for 4 years LESS than out own Ricky Hatton and having had almost half as many fights, is ALREADY mixing in far better company. Doesn't matter though, the MEN will still sell out I suppose. Can't wait for June 5 and another sparring session/world class title clash (delete as applicable) no doubt.
PS - those close to Hatton should remember what eventually happened to the Golden goose in the Fable.

True but Cotto has only been a pro for 3 years and this would be his 20th fight.J wrote:isnt this the same Lovemore Ndou hatton was condemmed for lining up as his next opponent.
I think he is decent enough but will be interesting to see how many think this is a good opponent for Cotto but were slating hatton for taking it.

I would say its a bit over the top to rate Cotto above Hatton just for facing N'Dou....I rate them more or less level at this point with Hatton maybe just ahead.
If Hatton finishes this year with two more stiffs but Cotto beats N'Dou then goes on to win a big fight which he is more than capable of then I would put him ahead of Hatton....

You're neglecting to point out that in between being dismissed as a Hatton opponent and being announced (has it been announced?) as Cotto's opponent N'Dou gave Mitchell a close fight and changed a lot of people's minds about him.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Rampant hypocrisy of the highest order....
Hatton is a fraud if he faces N'dou, yet for Cotto N'dou is a crossroads fight which gets him ranked ahead of Hatton.....hmm
Sorry Mr Bassie but if you use that arguement then Vince Phillips didnt give Sharmba a hard nights work then? the fight b4 taking on hatton?
95-95 / 96-94 and the usual blind judge 99-91
vs ndou
115-113, 117-112, 118-110
which was more akin to mitchells fight with tackie
Scoring: 118-109, 119-108, 119-108
argument dismissed.

im not sayin he isnt, what I am alluding to is that a lot of people slated hatton off for looking at fighting Ndou.mrbassie wrote:What is this argument that's dismissed? I didn't actually make one.
N'Dou is a good opponent for Cotto. Cotto's beaten some former lightweights and now he's fighting a full fledged light welter who's coming of a good performance against America's no.1
You then quoted Ndou's performrance against mitchell, so I quoted phillips especially as a counter argument as apparently phillips was an "over the hill ***" not your words I know but its said on here quite often.
which unless she went drastically down hill in between fighting mitchell and hatton blatently he wasnt a ***!
I know I probably look like Im over defensive of hatton here but Im not, i want him to mix it with the best also and cant wait til he fights the marquee names. I just find a lot of this criticismn has double standards and is slightly unfounded in that all I also want is that people are consistent in their appraisals of the situtation.
If Cotto and hatton are of a similar level (agreed by most people here) for different reasons admittedly. But say they are, how is Ndou a shit opponent for hatton and good one for cotto.
Apply the same rules to two similarly ranked fighters. Its called being fair in your criticism.
And yes I know Hatto has had more fights but if you look at his record he is being brought through the ranks more slowly and late sub pedersen was a step up form the likes of Smith, no disrespect to steve.
thats all.

I belive it was six days before the fight and he had a chance to fight Ndou and turned it down, as he has done before.J wrote:IT ALSO WASNT AT 48 HRS NOTICE.bennie wrote:Cotto's original opponent pulled out (how many times has that happened with Hatton), but the substitute ain't no Dennis Pedersen.
nope Pinto was supposed to fly in tues but was then delayed til thurs due to his cold symptoms supposedly.
tues would have made it 4 days so god knows where six days come into it and you blame hatton for not taking on a top tenner at 4 days notice at the earliest with a completely different set of skills?
