Its Verno Phillips vs Kassim Ouma (the rematch) for the Vacant belt.

Great match although I am a bit gutted, Phillips has been in terrific form and I was hoping he would fight a Santos or Simms for a belt, this is a much harder proposition. I like Phillips he's sort his life and his career around and really deserves a belt, this is a toughie though - I think Ouma could beat anyone in the devision, I would tip Phillips against most (including Santos, Simms and Moseley) but I think Ouma might be too much.

Its a shame Martinez couldn't get involved - that man is ready for the big leagues.

this sucks immeasurably.

after all this time he gives mosely a beating and a matter of a few weeks later they strip him of one the belts he unified.

This is so bad for boxing's profile, more bullshit politics, at least give him a chance to sort out fighting the ranked contenders, its a complete joke imo.

fornicate all the alphabet boys, WBC, WBA, WBO IBF WBU, they are all cun*'s.

We need a universally respected publication to start issuing rankings and belts, and national and international newspapers should publish those rankings, so should TV companies.

It can be done.

I would say Ouma is definitely more deserving of a title shot (Phillips too probably) than Simms and Castillejo.

It's shitty the way the alphabet boys suddenly descended on Winky though. To keep his belts he needed to make 3 defences in 3 months or something daft.

I really feel for Winky. It's taken him a long time to get the sort of praise that he deserves, and now because of the politics of the sport he hasn't even been able to enjoy his new status for more than a few months.
To me it seems he's suffering because he's not a big name fighter. If he had the profile of fighters like Mayweather, DLH or Jones the IBF wouldn't have even thought about doing this.

Unfortunately Wright doesn't have a fraction of the following that Barrera does, it would be difficult for him to reign successfully as "peoples champ" I feel.

totally agree but maybe just maybe if he did that he might get more of a following? Its unlikley and a big risk but possible?

This really sucks, but Winky will make more money fighting Mosley than he would have got fighting two or three defences, and he's likely to win again.

Yeah Mosley seems almost in Manfredy-like denial about what happened to him against Wright. I'm very surprised he wants to go straight back in there with him, maybe Shane feels it's the only thing he can do in order to continue to convincingly talk about being a top flight boxer.

Im not even bothered about all the belts no more I give up....I know who the best fighters are in each division and have my own personal views and rankings so sod the alphabets...

I used to get so wound up by all the politics but just accept it now as part of the game.

I know Winkys the best at that weight at the moment and untill someone beats him that wont change.

Winky holds the HH belt of significance.

Winky would still make lots of money for big fights in the future, and the people know who is the real champion is after the belts have gone

The thing is Winky has never been a nig draw in the states and I dont see that changing a great deal in the near future.

Winky is a great Pro and always comes prepared and to win, he deserves to be at the top of the game and will soon appear high up in the P4P rankings I am predicting right here on Boxrec a couple of really big years for Winky.....culminating with a win over DLH...

When Winky was only WBO or IBF champ he was easily avoided. Having the main 3 belts means you get the biggest fights at some stage because the best challengers have to face you.

It's very important for a man like Ronald Wright to be undisputed champ, same with Hopkins. You don't want guys stepping around you, costing you paydays.

Excellent point Kilburn and good comparison with Hopkins....

Winky needs to force these guys to face and without all the belts he cannot guarantee that.

Yes, I think maybe Winky would be best off not fighting Mosley yet. He needs to hang on to at least one belt, because people will simply avoid him like the plague.

DLH would never fight Winky, he'd lose if he did I think.

I have a feeling that Oscar is going to look very ordinary against Sturm too...too high above his natural weight, plus he is on the slide physically, he'll be slower at middleweight too. Sturm isn't a complete bum, he has a decent amateur record, and technically he's ok. DLH wins, but wins small.

this does beg the question what the eff is Oscar doing getting in a ring (supposedly) with hopkins? If winky would bash him up Hopkins is goinna do much worse I reckon.
I really dont want to see de lay hoya fight hopkins, I just cant see him standing it and it may well finish him.

I quite like de la hoya. Cant understand where all the hatred towards him comes from but there we go.

but he will get stuffed big time by the Executioner.

De La Hoya will be back peddaling like a cheetah against Hopkins, no doubt looking to land with quick scoring jabs. It's his only chance of winning. Any other tactic will see him get bashed up. Trouble is he carried it out almost to perfection (for about 10 rounds anyway) against Tito and still didn't get the decision.

I'm finding it hard to picture De La Hoya lasting the 12 round distance against the Executioner though. It seems unlikely that the trusty left hook will do much to discourage the champion from hunting him down. The physical pressure surely will prove too much.

Big respect to De La Hoya though. Once again he puts himself well and truly in harms way.

Hopkins will be able to walk through DLH's shots, the only hope I think DLH has is to plant his feet a bit and string him with combinations, and then try and get out of range again, but that's a very tiring routine to carry out for 12 rounds.

The thing which really counts against DLH though, is that he isn't that hard to hit.

He's got balls, i'll give him that, but it could be a huge mistake taking on Hopkins. I agree with what Kilburn thinks DLH's tactics will be, unfortunately for him Hopkins is an expert at pinning fighters into the corners, or against the ropes. I cannot see a way in which DLH can win this one, he doesn't have the power to discourage Hopkins, nor does he have, IMO, enough to outbox him on the outside for the full 12 rounds. I can see Hopkins doing to DLH exactly what he did to Joppy.
