I actually, although not at the time, thought Barrera vs Morales 1 was very close.... Barrera won his rounds bigger, but Morales won rounds. I did have Barrera winning, but I think 9-3 is a tad OTT.

I'm probably in the minority, but I always felt Morales was better than Barrera because of his physical attributes, mainly. Insane puncher as well. Transitioned the weight a lot better than Marco.

I asked Wayne in July who hit the harder between Nas and Erik and he said Morales by a mile. He also told me that Erik almost quit in their fight because he was exhausted at the end of round 10, but his trainer made him carry on. Erik calls him the mad Irishman.

Barrera arguably beat Morales 3 times, despite giving up about 10lbs on the night (Morales was a big weight drainer) but obviously Morales did better with Jones and Pacman. Barrera scalped Mkinney and Hamed though and ofcourse getting the better of Morales himself

As for Morales hitting harder than Naz, I find that pretty laughable, Naz ko'd Angeles in 2rounds who would later go 12 with Morales, he also ko'd another who went 12 with Morales and stopped his man faster on all mutual opponents

I rate solid bloody shots over pitter patters that bounce of a man's head any day of the week, and Morales was back up and taking flush left hooks the whole fight. I just found it hard to give Morales many rounds he did hurt Barrera a few times but it was few and far between

I agree on the reason why they chose Barrera. Plus Barrera didn't usually fight in the style he did against Naz on the night. On Brodie and Tapia I think Hamed would have KO'd Brodie and beaten Tapia on points.

If you think I wrote Brodie would have taken Naz "apart" you a blind. I merely think the Brodie of the first Chi fight would have beaten the Naz of the Calvo fight. Prime v prime Naz would have stopped Brodie in nine, for sure.

Anyways, take comfort in that I worked for Glyn Leach so I wasn't paid much to write that rubbish.

Retirement was the best thing for Naz, he was a shot fighter (mentally rather than physically) somewhere along the line he lost something, I'm not sure what it was (hunger maybe?) but ever since the Kelley fight he seemed to wind down. In his younger years he was a gym freak but as he got older, more successful and richer he spent less time training, maybe he wanted to spend more time with his wife and kids(which he is entitled to of course).

It's a shame really as he turned pro around the time I got into boxing so I kind of grew up with his career and he became my favourite fighter following Benns retirement. He deserves a lot more respect for his achievements in the ring, sure he supposedly "ducked" JMM but look at the rest of the fighters on his resume, far more impressive than JC or Hatton IMO.

Agreed. Naz certainly lost alot of his hunger. What with him departing with his trainer, and Training half-heartedly, he certainly was not the same fighter by the time it was Naz - Barrera.

I think it's he retired when he did. He could have beaten Barrera and a few others had he continued his Peak form for longer, but Naz clearly could not be bothered with it.
