Bob Foster on ESPN last week
Anyone catch the interview with Bob Foster on ESPN? Last Friday, I think. He's doing all right. Living & working still in Albuquerque as a Sheriff's Deputy. Hasn't put on much weight. He helps some young local boxers in his spare time. Bob was saying he considered himself the greatest light-heavyweight of all time. Don't know about that one, but he sure has an impressive highlight tape, especially the hook that dropped Tiger.

Didn't see the ESPN interview, but I remember that Foster kind of had a rep for being a rather surly sort. Did he come off that way? Good to know that he spends time trying to help younger boxers, though.
Foster the greatest light-heavy of all time? Well, that is open for debate, but he does rate highly in my book. I think he would be among the top ten for sure.
The left hook against Tiger was a killer, but don't forget the Mike Quarry fight where he almost took Quarry's head off. I remember Quarry lay on the canvas for quite a while not moving and the arena got real quiet.
Foster was on the receiving end, however, against Smoking Joe in November of 1970 when Joe landed his left hook and put Foster out like a light in the second round.

There were rumors that after the arrest, Mrs. Foster worked out some sort of back-room deal with the arresting officer, leading to the charges being dropped.Alister wrote:Foster is quite a character and takes everything he does extremely serious. Extremely serious. He even arrested his own wife for speeding once. Talk about taking things to the limit huh?
I have a friend who's not even been officially deputized, but who nevertheless "arrests" his wife for being a "naughty truant schoolgirl" every now and again. Strangely, she doesn't seem to mind terribly much.
