DUNNE'S RUNNING SCARED OF MUNROE

I wonder will dunne get a run out on the 27th Nov Duddy bill if it goes ahead for the Kings Hall. Could give Bernard a wee warm up before a Feb bout in Dublin ?

I understand why there may be serious issues with RTE, who will happilly cut their nose off despite their face, just to keep Dunne an RTE fighter. BigEars sums it up well.

Big ears do you think that dunne will wait for 18 months or so ? Do you think he will continue to pad his record with fighters below his level or will he take a risk?
I can also see both sides of the story If dunne was euro champ there would be no way he would leave dublin.
Dunne is a big fish in a small bowl over here and no matter what fight he takes it would be bigger than a munroe event. Unless munroe is to have a world shot he will be still fighting in leisure centres I feel ,its just the way it is.

No I think now Peters will go another route and if someone else is to beat Munroe along the way they'll look to face them.
I think Peters will look to get the fighters with the highest rankings who are the easiest opponents. Big punchers will be avoided and we may still see the odd Bantamweight or two rather than a full blown Super-Bantwamweight. However I think Peters won't be happy treading water forever(and neither will RTÉ) so I think Dunne will be put into a meaningful fight before too long. Someone like Antonio Escalante maybe, Michael Hunter will definitely be looked at, I'm sure Hunter will face Munroe, Dunne or Marsh before in the near future.

I think Sergio Medina would be a realistic, tough challenge that Peters may go for when he's looking for that one fight before a World title challenge.
Medina has high rankings in the WBO(4th) and IBF(7th), he was outboxed by Rey Bautista easily at times and not so much at others. Bautista has a similarly shaky chin to Dunne and was floored by Medina. However Medina isn't a huge puncher and has had some very close wins at Argentinian domestic level since losing to Bautista.

Wayne McCullough would like a fight with Dunne and Dunne would like a fight with McCullough but Peters doesn't seem anyway interested in that. I think if McCullough does get a win at home in Ireland(which he unfortunately seems planned to do with promoter Tommy Egan) then he would become an option aswell.


When you're looking at fighting for a World title sometime in the future the opponents to get you there could be anyone from anywhere.
International and Inter-Continental titles are an easy way of pushing up the rankings but it really is a case of we will so.


The same way I will criticise Munroe if his next opponent is poor I will do the same for Dunne. At the very least I'm expecting an improvement from Machado and Marchiano.

I do understand why Maloney is turning down very good offers for Munroe to fight outside England. Although Munroe does have a pretty meagre following he does possess the European title and has a working class background which Maloney is trying(righly) to project to the public and gain interest. I think regularly being on Sky making moderate defenses would gain Munroe quite a following. Where as fighting abroad won't gain him many fans in his own country.

Munroe's promoter Frank Maloney said: "That is a lame excuse if ever I heard one, and it really is a bit hard to swallow.

"We all know that TV companies will not stand in the way of fights if it will progress their boxer in the long term.

If it had have come off, then to be fair astute match making on FTM's part.
High exposure, reasonable name on the record, but most important of all - minimal risk.
Munroe would have coasted this.

I'm Munroe's biggest fan but there is no way he would coast to victory over Dunne, points decision to Munroe i think would be the most likely decision, Big Ears makes a few good points about Dunne but if Dunne was an English fighter he would just be another average fighter but because he is Irish they rave about him !!!
