Should there be a limit in all fights to the amount of weight you can put on?

I know that is the case with one of the governing bodies ( IBF?)Word Title Fights - but should all contest follow suit?

Fighters should be weighed a week before the fight and then again on the morning of the fight.

But should they weigh so much mor ethn the official contrated weight on fight night?

I say NO NO NO!

Its too dangerous and encourages guys to empty their bodies of too much fluids and put too much on just to get an advantage.

No, they shouldn't be allowed to put so much weight on because we'll end up with another Gatti-Gamache incident otherwise. I felt at the time that some of Cottos light welter fights shouldn't have taken place. I remember how drained he looked at the weighin for the Paulie fight and then went into the ring the following day like an absolute monster.

Well most top fighters do rehydrate more than 7lbs BUT fighters who are really weight drained may then fight dehydrated, which would endager them even more

So, the rules should change to make sure you are fighting in your right weight division. How are they going to do it?

I don't know know know!

I like the IBF's rule where they can't be more then 10lbs heavier on the 2nd weigh In but I guess It can be beat by timing It.

I agree, it's a good rule & something has to be done*, realistically, but I just don't know how you can enforce something like this. Wasn't Cazares something like ten pounds off one of the check weigh-ins for the second Calderon fight? What happened to him? Did he get a fine or something?

*: Here I should admit that the "But they're not featherweights! Willy Pep never weighed this much & he was a featherweight!" crowd get on my tits: compare them to lightweights of the past then! It's only a name!
