Anybody Else Think Warren Is Going To Okay Outta Last Saturd
Okay, stick with me here for a few minutes because I know most people's immediate reaction will be the same as mine - no, because his main man got his ass handed to him. However, you could argue that the result of the PPV leaves him better rather than worse off:
1. He has options on Prescott. Until we see him in with someone a level above, we'll not know whether he is a genuine contender - but there has to be a fair chance that he could be, and there will be LOTS of people interested in seeing him box next time round.
2. Khan is still box office. WHAT? I hear you scream. But when you think about it, the general fans reaction last week was that they didn't want to watch Khan because he was being fed easy meat. Next time round the questions will be different - not whether he is being carefully shepherded to an undeserved title shot, but whether he can come back at all. There will be a lot of people keen to see whether he gets heavily dumped again and in the car crash value, and others who will have more time for the lad now that he's been shown to be vulnerable but ballsy.
3. Cook beating Arthur was the right result for him - Arthur isn't long for the weight and this way Frank keeps the title in house, has a London fighter with a belt and still retains a decent support act in AA, who would be a great bet for fights against Murray, Khan et al up a weight.
4. Any time he gets a prospect in future, his choices of opponent will have greater cachet - say he signs James DeGale, he can bring in unknown opponents and effectively say "look, I brought over Prescott and you never knew how good he was, so what might I offer to amaze you this time"?

Yes - he will do fine!
Khan will be on a sliding scale pay wise - win you get more and lose and get less!

Prescott vs John Murray would be very interesting.
I dont think Warren came out of last weekend at all, his main draw got his china chin cracked which was inevitable really.

IF he has options on Prescott (has this been confirmed) then I can't see him making much money on him.... look at all the foreginers a British promoter has signed or had options on..... better fighters than Prescott, more marketable with better pedigree - all left.
If the big fights couldn't be delivered for Barrera - they aint going to be delivered for Prescott.

Agree to an extent but none of those fighters had the angle that Prescott has of the monster who came over and pulverised our Olympic silver boy. Add to the mix that there are a lot of talented brits at or around lightweight.stujones wrote:IF he has options on Prescott (has this been confirmed) then I can't see him making much money on him.... look at all the foreginers a British promoter has signed or had options on..... better fighters than Prescott, more marketable with better pedigree - all left.

I'm pretty sure Frankie Warren said in an interview that he has options on Prscott, but he's not sure what he's going to do about it yet.stujones wrote:IF he has options on Prescott (has this been confirmed) then I can't see him making much money on him.... look at all the foreginers a British promoter has signed or had options on..... better fighters than Prescott, more marketable with better pedigree - all left.

Warren will be ok simply because Khan will get less money now, Prescott well they won't get Kasidas he is the new Gatti and will want BIG money , Got a feeling if he has the options he will use Prescott too soften up Murray and a couple off others while biulding Khan up again for a big domestic fight. Just cannot see the yanks salviating at the mouth over Khan the money is in the domestics and they will be a couple off years and another ten featherweights away.

Also - Alex Arthur - Mitchell and when he has 1 fight left on Khans contract.. REMATCH with Prescott!chinny wrote:Agree to an extent but none of those fighters had the angle that Prescott has of the monster who came over and pulverised our Olympic silver boy. Ant Evans wrote:You aren't getting a clear read here. Warren's problems are:
1) there is no young talent in UK boxing right now... the Olympic kids don't look like world champions to me, and I've not heard any respected boxing writer say any different... Haye is the only one with any upside in the next 2-3years and he's self-promoted
2) Personal view, but I think Warren has lost touch with boxing public. Too many mismatches, too many crappy cards for too long... less than 8000 fans for a "big fight" with "hottest talent" in UK boxing is a pathetic crowd after 4 years of massive media attention and BBC/ITV coverage. The whole feel of his promotions is so 1988; no big screens, crappy sound, long waits between fights, more dry ice than a Whitesnake reunion tour, old, old, old.
Back in the day, Warren made Duff's promotions look out of date. Now Warren is the old man in promotion, and he's getting saler than a ham and egg sandwich bought at a 24 hour garage.
PS - His column on today's Sun was hilarious. Khan "does NOT" have poor chin. Right on. Thanks for clearing that one up for us, then.
I agree, how long before he makes Khan grow a Mullet?
Khan is not chinny?

Re: Anybody Else Think Warren Is Going To Okay Outta Last Saturd
Barrera was an ESTABLISHED star when he came over here and the purpose was Barrera vs Naz (alot earlier than when it did happen), but the deal never happend cause Barrera was obviously deemed not good value for money.chinny wrote:Agree to an extent but none of those fighters had the angle that Prescott has of the monster who came over and pulverised our Olympic silver boy. Prescott is now that Columbian bum who exposed Khan.... not deemed by the masses as a world beater.
Recent history has said it just doesn't work.
Re: Anybody Else Think Warren Is Going To Okay Outta Last Saturd
Warren will come out of it okay, although it's hardly the result he would have wanted. He can maybe generate some interest for a fight between Prescott and one of the other up and coming British fighters at the weight, plus as the original post says people will still want to see Khan fight (if not on PPV) and Arthur and Cook still both can be moved into lucrative fights.
Re: Anybody Else Think Warren Is Going To Okay Outta Last Saturd
Warren controls Limond and Earl (I think) - not Thaxton and Murray.... so how is Prescott going to fight these two?
If they couldn't agree to fight Khan, they won't agree to fight Khan's conqueror at a smaller deal.
Plus with Fewkes now defeated, thats another of the interesting Lightweights beaten.... somehow Gethin doesn't have the potential, or I think box office appeal of Fewkes.
