ANOTHER CRACKING VIP BILL ENDS WITH HEARTBREAK FOR MATTVIENKO
ALEX MATTVIENKO – Suffered his first loss in his 14th fight for the vacant British Masters Light-Middleweight title fight against Sheffield’s Lee Edwards in what was fight of the night and there was some good contests. There will be a fight report posted shortly but the score of 95-94 by the referee had them 5 rounds even with a point deducted from Alex for a head butt loosing him a fight which all the home punters thought he had won by pushing out 2 big final rounds in what was a great fight and one that we can do again.
MARTIN MURRAY - Gave a stone away in weight but still managed to stop Carl Wilde in 2 rounds with devastating body punchers that had the tall Sheffield boxer over twice and unable to get up the second time.
JACK ARNFIELD – The 19 year prospect from Blackpool went to 7 straight wins with a points win over Jon Harrison .
GARY DAVIES – In a proper toe to toe punch up , Gary finally stopped Sumaila Badu in the 5th round of what was a brutal war with both standing there ground trading without any worry on defence .
LEE JENNINGS – A very good performance saw Lee stop John Vanemminis in 2 exciting rounds of non stop punching from the Lee who mixed up shots to both body and head flooring John twice.
RICK GODDINGS – Shown some nice moves in his points win over Johnny Greaves who to his credited never stopped trying
SCOTT MITCHELL – Beat Ben Harding on points in a well matched Heavyweight contest
CHRIS JOHNSON – Repeated a points win over David Kirk and hopes to box next in the Welterweight prize-fighter contest where he is a reserve.
CARL DILCS and PAUL EDWARDS failed to be matched up and hopefully will now box on the VIP show in Leigh on the 12th October which will be headlined by Tommy McDonagh and feature the debut of new VIP signing Karl Place

Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
I had Alex by one point, which would have been two if not for the headbutt.
Gutted for him......nearly had the guy out in the second as well.
Murray and Godding impressed me, as did Jennings. Brutal right hand.....

Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
Got frustrated, think it was round 4/5. Edwards kept holding and he pushed his head at him, it wasn't of DQ standard but a point was fair enough. Possibly a strong warning, but Edwards could have got one as well for holding at the end.

Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
matt should have won the fight by 2 rounds , he forced the pace through out , and took a point of when , wich he should have done to edwards how does he end up with 2 cuts ?? ref was diabolical and biased it has happened to matt twice with this ref now , just shows you if your in with the board and from sheffield it makes a difference !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;;-)

rematch defo needed it was one of the best small hall fights in a long time both showed hart but wrong man won > return please ste
Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
I thought Matt won at least 6 rounds. He was the one setting the pace and dictating the fight. Difficult to score that type of fight as it's really subjective, style v substance. But Edwards just didn't do enough to take 5 rounds on the scorecard for me! Really poor decision and I hope Steve Wood manages to sort a rematch because I can only see one winner.jrh wrote:rematch defo needed it was one of the best small hall fights in a long time both showed hart but wrong man won > return please ste
Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
Apparently there was some foul play and someone from the Edwards camp swapped Matt's gloves for some heavier ones (see right hand of web page and don't ask me how I came across this?)

Bloody hell that was some find!
Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
I know. One of the lads who works with me just spotted it whilst searching for leads on Marketing recruitment sites. I'm sure Matt won't mind me saying I can think of better models to hire to boost your company ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
Absolutely only one winner for that fight, Alex by at least 2 rounds even with the point deduction. It seemed the referee made his mind up early on who he favoured. Absolute disgraceful decision. Noone thought the other guy won.
Keep your chin up matt, you'll be back. A rematch is needed without doubt - unfinished business.

Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
I have checked out the link Wax on and I think you will find the rogue glove which is featured is actually a complete set and belongs to big Scott. Check his profile pic on facebook.
I thought Matt got robbed last night, a point of concern for me was the fact that the final outcome was left to the ref, who if memory serves me correctly delivered Mat a draw from what was a clear win in 06/07! Last night was a title fight and the result was left to one man, how is that fair? A fantastic fight like last night which was so obviously close should warrant a more broad decision. I watched Eliminator on Friday which had a mixture of distinctly average heavywights with nothing on the line except money, yet everyfight which went the distance went to the cards. No such luxury for a title shot?
When Edwards comes around form the shot which nearly put his head into the bleachers in round 5 he should take his time enjoy his title because he is a very lucky man to have come away with the decision last night!
A rematch is a must!!!! Great performance from Matt, total entertainemt for 10 rounds, shame he got robbed on the result!!!

Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
who was the referee? where was he from? I spoke to a few people who have known him from previous fights and describe him as questionable to say the least.
I describe him as a big nosed tosspot!

See I gave some of the close rounds even, Gray mustve given every close round to Edwards (aside form the two I thought he won fairly clearly). Alex won his clearly I thought.

Re: VIPBoxing.com News - Heartbreak for Mattvienko
i didnt have a scorecard
but....
round 1 id clearly give to edwards & 8 i think
mat CLEARLY won 2, 5, 9 & 10 - and also won a few of the even rounds in between
but come on, there was no way that fight could have been 5 rounds a piece

I thoguht Al won round 5, the shot he landed before the headbutt was a peach and had Edwards going.
9-9 for me
