Kevin McBride confirmed as Tyson's comeback opponent
Kevin McBride has confirmed he will indeed be the opponent standing across from Mike Tyson when the former world heavyweight champion next enters the ring.
Tyson has signed a-one fight promotional deal to appear in a boxing match on an upcoming K-1 card.
"I got it. That's what I've been told," the giant McBride said. "We're going to New York on Monday or Tuesday to finalize everything. The fight will be on July 31 at either Madison Square Garden or some casino in Las Vegas."

I have to agree with you guys here. This is a shocking match up. I assume that although it's on a K1 card it's under Boxing rules and will be sanctioned as such?bennie wrote:True, Sir Ulysses. Another Lou Savarese lined up for Mighty Mike.Ulysses wrote:This is a horrendous match.
Tyson knows and understands Boxing he must know that this is a poor match, he's either lost all confidence in his abilities to compete at the top level or will just fight anyone if the money is right.
No offence meant to Kevin McBride and I hope he gets well paid and doesn't get too hurt but, is he really much better than Peter McNelley who Tyson walked through 9 years ago!!
Unless Tyson turns up weighing 260lbs and high on dope this won't go 2 rounds.
I think I would rather see Tyson in with Butterbean or Nicoly Valuev.
McBride's a lot worse than Savarese. While Savarese was found short at the highest level he had respectable wins over the likes of 'Mount' Whittaker.bennie wrote:True, Sir Ulysses. Another Lou Savarese lined up for Mighty Mike.Ulysses wrote:This is a horrendous match.
This match is a disgrace, and even a faded Tyson will bomb McBride out in one.
I don't think this is true
Alot of people use Tyson's name to promote themselve's and I think this is the case here!.
If it is true, than I agree it is a poor match but I've got to the stage now that ANYONE WILL DO as long as Tyson gets back in the ring and does what he was born to do.
The training will be more important than the actual fight and it'll be great for Tyson to form a better relationship with Freddie Roach.
Infact, I wouldn't be surprised if Tyson/ McBride breaks the All-time PPV record because Tyson is BIGGER NOW THAN HE'S EVER BEEN.
Who ever he fights, the main thing is that he fights JOE MESI in Oct/Nov this year!

Yeah I agree, nobody was very annoyed when Saverese was being touted to challenge Lewis for the WBC title (after Briggs). There was, I believe, some intence negotiations and the internet and most of the boxing magazines assumed it was set.Deserter wrote:McBride's a lot worse than Savarese. Yet, when Tyson fought Saverese to shape off some ring rust he was rediculed.
Saverese is not bad.
Francis, Saverese and Golota were good opponents for Tyson to take on at that stage - but Neilson, Etteine and now McBride are/were bad choices if he is serious about his career. What will he learn from this, I don't know.
The sad thing is that Tyson was starting to look good after his 3rd fight in 2000 against Golota and had he fought Lewis within a few months of this, I really think he'd have KO'D Lewis but of course, all that good work went to nothing having just 1 fight in 2001 and than the Lewis fight. Both fights, he came in grossly overweight and out of shape!

I actually agree, I know it was only 30 seconds, but against Saverese and also against Golota, he looked as good as he did in 1995.
The 1995 version of Tyson can win a world title no doubt.

Another sad fact is that Tyson was in better shape to fight a Journeyman like Julius Francis than Lennox Lewis!
Tyson drive's his fan's crazy but when he delivers, boy does he deliver!

Isn't there a childrens forum you can post on somewhere?
Whilst I agree the 1995 version Tyson would probably win a World Title right now, the 2000/1 version had issues that have been simmering since his youth. Tyson’s aura and the mental state of both him and his opponents are the main issues, not his physical state. Saverese, Francis, and Norris were all well beaten before the fight began.
His defeats have come against fighters who did not break mentally for one reason or another (Douglas / Holyfield ). Or a challenge I don’t think he was up for mentally (Holyfield II / Lewis). He was young enough and quick enough to repel such a challenge from Ruddock. I think Golota has much the same psyche.
And the current crop, he’s probably not too worried about any of them! Mentally right and he generally turns up in at least a good enough physical state to be competitive with anyone, but that may reflect the quality of the current scene rather than Tyson’s current ability.
