Slugger O'toole 80's
Re: Slugger O'toole 80's
Yeah, he was a decent fighter, looked a bit unlucky against Henry Wharton in Leeds. I watched him fight as an amateur for England vs Poland in 1986 and he showed plenty of potential. Brendan Ingle renamed him Slugger O'Toole in the paid ranks.

Re: Slugger O'toole 80's
As Harry Carpenter said during the closing stages of his commentary on O'Toole v Wharton (it was screened by BBC):
"If Wharton wins this fight it will go down in history with the loaves and the fishes" (or words to that effect - its been a longtime!)
I was a big Wharton fan and even I conceed Smith boxed his head off that night.

He was a great boxer... the Wharton fight was a terrible robbery... but just one of a few Castro suffered in his career... I think he was robbed against Mccracken too and afterwards quit the game because of it... under different managership and with a few breaks Castro was good enough to at least fight for a world title, if not actually win one...
