OUCH!
I always thought Ward Cleaver was the most macho guy on TV. I mean we he entered the house everyone snapped to attention. June was there AT THE DOOR like her savior had arrived. Ward would solve all her problems and have an answer to all her questions.. Wally and the Beave were shittin' in their pants that "Dad was gonna yell at us." Ward Cleaver was the Cock of The Walk. All confidence. In command. Respected. And had the final word.

He'd sit there and read the paper before anyone else dared look at it. Dinner would be ready just the way he liked it. Then with his snooty look at the dinner table would ask,"Well fellas. Anything interesting happen in school?"
And then Beaver would say"Yeah dad, I had sex with Miss Canfield."
Well you know Dagos now that you bring it up, on that show June did utter the dirtiest line in TV at the time when she said, "Ward you were pretty hard on the Beaver last night".

With the exception of Dan, my youngest, saying "I had sex with Miss Canfield," just substitute my name for Ward, Linda for June, David for Wally, and Dan for the Beaver, and that's just the way things worked at our house when my boys were that age . . . :TU: :TU: :TU:

My Uncle Bob . . . All the talk about Pug's Uncle John reminded me of my family's black sheep, Uncle Bob. Now my Uncle was only half Irish, with the other half a product of my London born grandmother. The English part of my family always blaimed the Irish blood for Uncle Bob. Regardless, this man was a real piece of work, and I'm sure he and John would be best of friends when not fighting each other. My mother and aunts would always cringe when Uncle Bob would show up at family functions, and he'd ALWAYS br drunk. Bob had a very selective vocabulary and preferred words consisting of four letters. He was teacher at heart and made sure all of us kids understood the art of cursing, lessons that often resulted in his being ejected from the dinner table. I never saw Uncle Bob fight, but he was always quick to challenge my other uncles or my father when he got mad, which was a given any time he showed up. Uncle Bob also informed me, upon learning I had started boxing, that regardless of how good I became, I'd never be able to take him. Years later, after I was a pro, Uncle Bob was sitting in a bar and saw one of my fights on TV from the Forum. It was a close, tough match and afterwards my opponent and I left the ring, both pretty beat up. M nose was busted, my left eye swollen shut, had six stitch cut over my right eye, there were bruises and bumps all over my skull and I would urinate blood all night. The other guy suffered similar injuries. It was a fight the crowd loved, and they showered the ring with coins after the final bell. A few weeks later I run into Uncle Bob at holiday dinnerand he proceeds to tell how lucky Iwas not have been in the ring with him that night. Uncle Bobtold me, ''kid, I could knock you out right here on the spot if I wanted to!'' I remember my response . . . ''Uncle Bob, if you ever hit me and I find out about it, you'll be in big trouble!''. Uncle Bob's mouth fell open and he stood silent as I turned around and walked away. That's the last time any of us saw UNCLE BOB. -RickUmnnb?

  Rick, this is the second time today I've blown hot coffee through my nose after I took a slip while reading one of these posts.

The first was Bobbin's "dirtiest line in TV" crack.

Did you guys take a comedy pill this morning, or something?

THE VALUE OF MONEY

You wonder what life is all about sometimes and realize you can't make heads or tails from it. I was watching the fights at the Auditorioum in Tijuana one cold night and was standing outside the gate waiting for one of the boys in Jibaro's stable to come out of the dressing room. I was gonna congardulate him on his 4 round prelim win. It was a slow 4 rounder, but the kid got the decision. Nothing to remember. Nothing to get excited about. Later on he got a dose of reality and was stiffened in the opening frame. But tonight he was undefeated. 1 victory and zero defeats. Funny,I can't remember his name. Like I said, nothing to get excited about.

I'm standing outside the Auditorium with this guy's wife. She's holding their baby in a blanket and holding another in her "panza". We're gabbing away waiting for her husband to emerge. He finally appears and he gives the wife and the baby kisses. I'm thinking this kid will never get to far trying to make money throwin' leather. I'm also wonderin' what he got paid for tonight's slow waltz. I didn't have the nerve to ask.

We're walking to the parking lot. I guess he was going home to the wife and kid and the dog. Me. Well I was gonna' just go to the dogs. As we're walking ,his wife spots one of those vending machines that sells little toys. This one had little plastic bobble head dolls. Really small dolls. She breaks out with a big smile and says,"Mira"(Look) I mean I thought she laid eyes on the Taj Mahal. All of a sudden she's whipping out money and stuffing it in this machine. She's putting quarters in so fast that these little plastic dolls are spewing out like hot lava. Her fighter husband is standing there just like he was standing in the ring while his pregnant wife must have put ten dollars in this gizmo. What the hell were they thinking? Ten dollars on shitty plastic toy dolls that were about a half inch high. That money could have bought a lot of diapers and Gerbers.

I think she would have put in another ten dollars but the machune ran out of toys. I'm looking at both of them bewidered. We say goodnight to each other and I'm saying to myself as I'm driving to "Naughtyland",what a waste of money. Then I stop to check to see how much I have in my wallet. I had a twenty. Enough to get drunk and layed.

Eddie Haskell, The Beaver, and Wally.
In 1980. I was doing a film at Universal and the special effects man on the production was Ken Osmand's brother. Ken Osmond played "Eddie Haskell" in the "Leave it to Beaver" series. One day, two L.A.P.D. officers visit the set. Sure enough, one of them was Ken Osmond. After a successful career as a child actor, he was finished in Hollywood when he grew into his teens. He ended up an L.A. cop until shortly after his visit to the set. One night, while on patrol in the Foothill divison of the San Fernando Valley, Officer Osmand pulled over a car. When he walked to the driver's window, the driver brandished a pistol and shot Osmond in the chest. Luckily for the former actor he was wearing a flack vest and survived the shooting with nothing more than a severe bruise where the bullet had hit his vest. A few months later, Osmond was called by a producer and told that they were going to do a contemporary remake of the old "Beaver" series, with the old gang now playing themselves as adults. It was a great break and, needless to say, Officer Ken Osmond retired from the LAPD and rsumed his role as "Eddie Haskell".
