Hayemaker Promotions

Post by beagleboy »

In a blaze of publicity, they claimed their shows would be about taking risks.
They open with Ryan Rhodes v Jamie Coyle FFS, and with 3 days to go 5 boxers are still scheduled to box TBA.

They also spoke of paying boxers good purses, so finding a good opponent for Haye should not be a problem.

The problem in my eyes, and it's the same for Khan fights, is that the Promoter announces the date before the opponent. Unless this is written in the TV contract, surely it's better the other way around.

That way it doesn't narrow your possibilities.

As I said in an earlier thread (and got abused for it), Haye and Booth know full well that without Haye there's no Hayemaker, which means no tv which means no boxers which means no money!

As I said then, they cannot take the risk of Haye getting ko'd (always a possibility with his whiskers).

Best to promise loads, deliver little and keep the whole thing running.

Mr U,
The final line of your post would make a great epitaph for numerous Promotors, both here and abroad.

That's a good point. All the big American fights are announced before the fight date itself, except when DLH is involved. If all the possible opponants know the fight date they know your working against the clock and will play hardball. They should have gotten an opponant locked down with a signed contract a couple of months ago and then announced November 15th as the date.

Haye is probably gonna end up facing an opponant that will be disappointing to most people, but what can you do when no one will get in the ring with you for reasonable money. He needs to get this one out the way and then hope that Klitschko get's by Povetkin in December. That's not a guarantee either though. If Klitschko tries to fight cautiously I think he'll lose, because Povetkin will break him down with the body work. He's got to drop some bombs on Povetkin early.

For me the main problem i have is if Haye can get the right focus for chasing the heavyweight title, if he's involved in every aspect of the promotion, for his cruiserweight fights he trained in Miami, will he now have to change this?
How can you train abroad and deal with all the ins and outs that a major boxing promotion needs?
Also if a couple of days before a big fight, the opponent suddenly asks for more money, or there is a major problem, then this has got to affect Hayes concentration, as he will have to negotiate with his proposed foe. Of course he will have people that can do this, but he's also got to get involved as the major player in the promotional group.

For me i'd love to see Haye be pronounced undisputed champ, but i can't help but think he's gonna find it hard to get there.

26 I agree mi old mucka! They are all the same.

BUT..............

If you look back at Hayes & Booth's statements then they have endlessly preached how they are going to be different. Better cards, better money, and on and on and on.

Sadly just more of the same!

Also iteresting to read Coldells piece in BN - Hayemaker boxers may sometimes have to take less to move forward. Wonder if they announcde that when they are trying to sign the boxers?

Haymaker Promo should just be a white label, he will end up getting chin checked if he gets to involved with the promo side whilst still active

Their ethos is in line with what's needed in the sport and I genuinely believe the intent behind it is honourable, but Rome wasn't built in a day and they will need to become established and come to terms with all of the ins and outs of promoting events first, before they can deliver on promises.

If "Best to promise loads, deliver little and keep the whole thing running." sums up your view of boxing promotion then you've become far too accustomed to cold blooded greedy assholes like allegedly who have bled the sport to the point of being a very slight notch up from fuc*ing bowls and darts.

Charlie you can slag darts BUT..................

If I buy a ticket to see Phil Taylor Vs Another famous player, then that;s who I get to see.

Not Taylor Vs uncle Albert from the Horse & Jockey.

If Hayemaker were not ready to deliver then DO NOT PREACH.

Simple really mucka!

If that motto is not hanging behind the reception on a gold plated plaque at SN Towers in its Latin translation, it bloody well should be.

"Promise much, deliver little and keep the whole thing running."

Beautiful.

One of their selling points was that fighters were going to be paid more.
They then employ Coldwell on a wage who says fighters may have to accept less ?

It's not a one-off promotion though is it? It's just the beginning. There's a long time yet to deliver.

What're they gonna do? "Well shit David, we couldn't get a big name in your first fight under the banner so the banner's gotta come down, shows over folks, we gave it a good shot!".

Time is on their side, and realistically speaking, it's not as though Haye and Booth would have to raise the bar too high in order to oudo SN now, christ, they are decimated after the Khan demolition.

As long as they employ a healthy sense of competition and adopt a fan's POV in their matchmaking, I personally dont care if their first few shows aren't jampacked with dream fights, I never expected that. There's a difference in approaching the opponents fans want to see picked, who subsequently asked for too much money ... and approaching matchmaking with a 'protect the cash-cow first' mentality ala Wazza.

i say give them a chance, the attitude is refreshing, and so far haye has delivered, in every aspect. of course the seasoned promoters are going to play difficult and create obstacles, but lets not stick a knife in the baby before it is even out of the uterus, they have not even had a show yet..

as for hayes opponent, he promised a top 10 opponent, and he has delivered. if you asked 50 people in boxing to name their top 10 heavyweights at present, then there would be a consistent 6 names then perm any 4 from 40 for the next 4. lets judge haye on his 3rd fight at HW (in terms of opponent) and not on his first 2. chapman, although relatively unknown (prescott anyone?) has a ranking with the 'respected bodies' and a proven KO ratio (prescott anyone?), to KO the travelling gobshite in the pub, you still have to hit him pretty hard!!

chapman is not a name that only appears on the WBO top 50 rankings, so lets cut team haye some slack. there is still an element of danger there for haye, this boy is unbeaten, can punch, and their are potential concerns with regards to hayes whiskers.

lots of new posters coming on here trying to sink HMS Haye before the champagne has smashed !!! :D

so, lets give them some encouragement, the attitude is refreshing, press conferences open to the public etc.

personally i hope they succeed, big time.

Reminds me of the Damien Hirst expo I saw last week. One of his "pieces" was a glass case with an office chair in it with an ashtray full of cigarette butts placed on the seat. The auction that followed in Sothebys made him over £100m richer.

I always view attacks of this nature as an acknowledgement that your opponents see you as a danger.
A new Promotor on the scene is good for the sport - why can't fans see that ?
If they don't tick all the boxes then fair enough, tell it like it is.
However, it's a bit of a joke to go on the offensive before the outlet has even put a show on.
Personally I'm gonna sit back and see how things evolve.
If Hayemaker do well - great.
If they don't - then they will have to deal with the criticism that spills their way.
Same applies to the rest of the Promotors - they ALL need to up their game.
New posters have suddenly appeared with the intention of persistantly attacking the new kid on the block.
Perhaps we should create a user group for all of the paid up members of the Wazza fan club.
Christ it must be boring in Hertfordshire.
When you're under the microscope it's an age old trick to throw shit in another direction to deflect attention.

Hirst could probably exhibit his own turd on an ice cream cone in a jamjar of formaldehyde and some silly fvckers will be clamouring to buy it.

What a load of bollocks. I read someone (can't remember who) describe Hirst and Emin's work as the Emperors New Clothes of Art the other day and thought, that's EXACTLY what it is, what a brilliant description.

Total shit, with a 'hidden' meaning ,passed off to muppet Gallery Directors and the filthy rich who belive that by buying it they're blazing a cultural trail. Wankers!!

Sorry rant over :o

I think that he will be happy in the main leaving promotional things to Coldwell & Booth. It will be interesting to see if he's at the inaugural Haymaker show on Saturday. If he's not then I reckon that it would be a good sign that he is remaining firmly focused on his own conditioning.

Yeah but if its a problem with Haye's fight , then how can he not get involved. For example last Saturday Guzman was giving the runaround to everyone in the lead up to his fight with Campbell, so what did Campbells trainer and manager do, they kept the boxer in the dark about it, so he could concentrate 100% on the upcoming fight, only when Campbell was on his way to the dressing room and the fight was definatly off did they inform Campbell.

Now if a problem arises with Haye's opponent there is now way he can't know, as he's the promoter, Booth is his trainer and Coldwell is his second, so both of them would have to get involved in sorting out the problem, they couldn't keep David in the dark about it, this has got to effect the concentration on Haye, not to mention the mental energy used in sorting out a stressful situation.
