Ryan Rhodes makes the first defence of his British light-middleweight title in his home city of Sheffield against lanky Scot Jamie Coyle.
Dateline is this Saturday, September 20.
Switch-hitter Rhodes won the title - for the second time - with a sharp nine-round knockout of Londoner Gary Woolcombe in London in April. Rhodes proved he is still strong at 11 stone, boiling down after a long spell at middleweight, and the shot he finished Woolcombe with was an absolute belter - the same quick right hand to the temple that had felled Gary Lockett in a 12-rounder at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in 2006. It is a shot to look out for again this weekend.
You know, Ryan first won the British light-middleweight title way back in 1996 and is still only 31. With an imposing record of 39-4 (27), he has plenty of experience and guile to go with his strength and power. He's not that easy to hit. His speed is also good.
Coyle is quick, too, and on a winning streak of six since Darlington's useful Franny Jones halted him in two rounds in Hartlepool in 2006 (a bad eye injury). A former amateur star from Stirling, Coyle brings a solid 16-3-1 (8) pro tab to this challenge, albeit at a lower level than the champion's - but two of his defeats have been quick. As well as Jones, who completely shut Coyle's left eye, Welsh schoolteacher Karl David jumped on Jamie and stopped him in the first round, although David later put current British welterweight champion Kel Brook on the floor (also in the first round, but Brook came back to win on a horribly late stoppage in the third). Coyle's neat-boxing style appears to let him down when he steps up and requires more 'pop'. His only other loss came to Chingford's then 7-0 Michael Lomax in Dagenham in 2005. Lomax, a natural southpaw like Rhodes, proved too strong and took a six-round decision.
Jamie is brave and capable but all the signs point to a fairly convincing win for Rhodes.

Also this weekend, German threat Marco Huck challenges French threat Jean Marc Monrose for the European cruiserweight title in Germany.
Monrose won the title by crushing Denmark's previously unbeaten Johny Jensen in just 90 seconds in his home city of Marseille in May. It was a 24th straight win for the dangerous, 27-year-old Monrose, after a loss on his debut, and one of stunning proportions. Indeed, seven of the champion's last eight opponents have been stopped and we look set for a right tear-up here, given Huck is also a puncher, with a record of 21-1 (16). His only loss came when he challenged classy American Steve "USS" Cunningham last year in Germany and was stoppd in the 12th and last round, but he learned from it and survived a broken jaw (from an accidental head clash) to stop Slovakian Frantisek Kasanic in nine rounds in May, picking up the injury in the fourth. The 23-year-old Huck is brave, improving, heavy handed and brave some more.
Crucially, this one takes place in Huck's hometown of Bielefeld, and while Monrose is more than useful, one has a feeling Huck is the man to prevail.

Hope its a good show, I really can't see how Coyle can win this though. He is a trier though, whose been in good form. I am not begruding him this chance... hope for a good fight.

Rhodes KO before 4 and looks awesome. Just think Coyle is made for him.
