Another WBA farce.

Post by Old bones Ian »

No i'm not talking about West Broms defence, but the fact that at the WBA convention, we had 2 world titles fights for the same title on the same bill. WBA superbantam champ Celestino Caballero retained in a farce against 43year old Elvis Mejia.
The supporting bout was for the WBA superbantam title!!!!, between Ricardo Cordoba and Luis Alberto Perez.

How the f*ck can you have 2 fights on the same bill , for the same title. What makes this farce even more incredible is the fact that it takes place at the WBA convention, where they are supposed to sort out f*ck ups.

It won't be long before people only recognise the newly sanctioned RING belt.

Steve - top quality article there, personally one of my favourite pieces I have read in quite some time - very well researched. Be interested to know the views of those researched on the fact that the ring magazine belt is now a "sanctioning" title.

Funny story years ago. Micky Hunter won the WBF super-bantamweight title after hammering Frankie De Milo in Hartlepool. Hunter vacated a while later but wouldn't send the belt back. One day some Yank rings him demanding the return of their prestigious belt. Hunter told him in no uncertain terms that it was staying at his residence but if he want to come over and get it he would fight him for it in the back garden. Classic.

Fantastic story. And well done Hunter. Just what are those sanctioning fees for if you can't keep the belt to show the grandkids?

Almost like the WBAs own version of 'Prizefighter' but in this case eveybody takes home a belt!

Even the losers on the night could be awarded a belt!

"WBA PRIZEFIGHTER - 6 fights, 12 champions - Where eveybody is a winner!"

Its sort of like kids party's where everyone gets to be a winner. I see the next thing as everyone who gets to fight for the world championship automatically becomes a world champion. Oops did I give them an idea

Talking of this, isn't there -- at least -- three WBA super-fly champions at present?

Cristian Mijares beat Alejandro Munoz in a unification fight; so they got some random Japanese dude to fight for the vacant "regular" title on the same day as Jorge Arcé (yes, the same bloke who copped a hiding off Mijares last year) fought for the "interim" belt. Yes. The same day.

What makes it slightly funnier is that the random Japanese dude had been outclassed by Munoz almost as badly as Arcé had been by Mijares. So it becomes a wedding-cake tiered level kind of thing: Mijares at the top, the other two... Actually, logically, that makes Munoz of a higher standing than Arcé & the Japanese bloke, but I don't think logic comes into it, somehow.

Even more tragilariously, Arcé is "defending" his belt on the undercard of Mijares' next fight.

What are you complaining about? You didn't go! You didn't pay good money to see this farce and you
didn't even watch it on the telly or down the pub!

Take your own advice! as long as you didn't fork out good money to watch this crap - stop whinging about the cesspool boxing is becoming through bad matchmaking, greedy sanctioning bodies and padded records. 8)

Glad you enjoyed the alphabet article. On an interesting sidenote I telephoned the WBU for an interview and a bemused woman from Cambridge answered the phone.

She couldn't understand why her number was up on their website and said she got calls from time to time regarding WBU fights. Not from Frank though one may presume  :TU:
