Comebacking Felix Trinidad finally has a rival and a date for his ring return. Tito will be facing Ricardo Mayorga on October 2 in a match made at 160lbs.
Trinidad hasn't got a prayer in my opinion.

i dont know who to pick in this match, dont know what trinidad will be like and dont know what mayorga is like at the weight, all i know is no one will show it over here :x

As already said on another thread, this may explain why Mayorge came in so over weight for his last fight.

Like Real Deal says its a strange one to pick as Tito has been out of the ring for a few years and how effective will Mayorga be at the higher weight?

However I just can't see Tito being sharp enough to deal with a fired up Mayorga in his firsst fight back.

Or maybe Tito knows something we don't and will have some 'Gym wars' behind closed doors to shake off all that ring rust and extra weight like Leonard did for the Hagler fight.

You'd have to say that's a huge weight gain for Mayorga to keep his work rate and speed though! Saying that, he's got plenty of time for at least one warm-up?

he's making shit loads of money 10 million plus 60 % of the ppv!!

I'd prefer to see him have a warm up. You have to be sharp at all times against Mayorga, and he canr afford to show signs of ring rust. He has until october to get in good shape, so hopefully they can get some great sparring partners to bring back that sharpness.

I'm looking forward to this fight, two limited bangers with warrior hearts in a war. Should be good fun while it lasts, Mayorga should win though as i believe his chin is better, Trinidad has always been vulnerable to a punch.

It's been 2 years since Tito's last fight, where he looked as good as ever blasting Cherifi into oblivion. If he turns up in anything like that form I'd say it's Mayorga who doesn't have a prayer.

But how good is Tito going to be? Can't bloody wait to find out that's all I can say.

Although i'm dead against Trinidad coming back, especially up at middle. I think he'll have too much for Mayorga.
I've always felt Tito was a little overrated by the casual fans and a little underrated by the more hardcore boxing fans.
There is no way he's as limited as Mayorga (who is about as one dimensional as it's possible to be).
His defense is better than Mayorga's. Both are easy to hit but i feel that Mayorga is hit more often than Tito was in his prime.
Up at middle i think that Tito will have the edge in power. Mayorga's last three fights at welter have gone the distance, while even at middle Tito was able to stop Joppy (something that Hopkins couldn't quite manage).
If Tito is anything near sharp i expect the above factors to be the deciding ones, i can't see Tito's poor footwork being an issue in this fight as he won't have to go looking for Mayorga.
Like everyone else i'd have liked to see a warm up fight for Trinidad, if only to gauge how much he has left (mentally more than anything). Should be a good fight, but if Tito wins i can't see him winning the inevitable rematch with Hopkins.

yeah needs a warm up for sure, but i guess not having one just makes this the more exciting and unpredictable.

Tis true, calling Trinidad a 'limited banger' is an outrageous comment!

I think even after the time out Tito should be a strong favourite for this, people are forgetting just how good he was.

I take that comment back, limited banger was the wrong word...but i remembered him being outboxed by DLH & Hopkins, Joppy and Vargas dictating the centre of the ring before Tito's power told and i made a bad statement. I'm sorry :(

Tito's left hook was a thing of beauty, he ruined Vargas and Reid who were never the same again.

This is a real 50/50 fight if Tito gets in shape. Mayorga is durable and can whack a bit as Vernon Found out. A warm up for Tito would have made sense

It's a long way off, but you wouldn't want to miss this one if it happens.
Very tough fight for a comebacking Tito to take, maybe too tough. Did the Hopkins beating finish him as a top level fighter? Cherifi wouldn't have told us anything.
Can't see him KO'ing Mayorga either. Forrest can hit ( ask Mosley ) but he couldn't even make EL Matador blink.
At his best you'd go with Trinidad to beat the crude slugging wild man, but I doubt he's still at his best any longer.

I actually think a good comeback opponent for Tito would have been Epifanio Mendoza. They look kind of similar and Mendoza can certainly bang.

As it is I'll be very interested to see what happens when that Trinidad left hook detonates on Mayorgas chin.

Mayorga walked into some punches and they stunned him vs Mitchell.
He also didn't have a lot of energy. Mayorga and Mitchell clinched on occasion because both of them wanted to. If Mayorga can get back his great stamina and stay on Trinidad, then he could win. Mayorga has fought at 154 before fighting Vernon Forrest. Of course we all wonder if Tito can knock Mayorga out. I think he can.
