Re: Williams v Botha
Odd that boxrec had Williams v McDermott down, with date and venue too.
Could possibly make McDermott v Harrison possible for the Khan bill in December.

Re: Williams v Botha
I wonder if Gammer will make a quick decision to comeback(again) and go for his old belt, should Williams vacate.
It will be pretty disgusting if the BBBoC have Harrison mandatory over Sprott.

If Danny wins will Audley face him to get his WBF title back?
I can see it now - 'The Rumble In Romford'.

Re: Williams v Botha
Just had a look at that and apparently Williams is fighting McDermott on the 1st and Botha on the 30th
Re: Williams v Botha
Anyone on here know Danny? I'd love to know if this is a genuine go-er, cos if it is I'd use it as an excuse for a pre-Xmas beano.
Can anyone find out??

Bill it as The Geezers in Giza and hold it in a pyramid.
Re: Williams v Botha
I wonder if those annoying peddlars will be running around trying to sell mini versions of the pyramids at ringside?
Re: Williams v Botha
He is set on doing both, but he acknowledges that it's a bit tight time-wise.Abbo wrote:Anyone on here know Danny? I'd love to know if this is a genuine go-er, cos if it is I'd use it as an excuse for a pre-Xmas beano.

He obviously feels that he's gonna beat McDermott in style this time round and get on with the Botha fight.
But if the McDermott rematch doesn't go to plan I'm not sure he'd be in any state to go up against an ex-IBF world heavyweight champion.
Wasn't the first McDermott fight a bit too soon after the craziness of the fight he had in Spain?
And won't it be Ramadan still, or will it have finished by then?
Re: Danny Williams to fight for WBF title!
Veteran world heavyweight title challengers Danny Williams and Frans Botha get together in the shadow of the Great Pyramids in Egypt on November 30, a bizarre and exotic setting for, quite frankly, a mediocre boxing pairing.
It is set for 12.
Chubby Williams was pounded in eight rounds by Ukrainian giant Vitali Klitschko in December 2004 for the WBC title but remains a domestic force at 35 and saw off blubbery Essex boy John McDermott on a majority decision last time out in July in Dagenham. It was typical Williams fare, these days: close, sloppy, foul-filled and quite exciting, in a 'heavyweight' sort of way. Frank Maloney was fit to be tied again after the verdict but the Brixton man, who flattened Mike Tyson in the summer of 2004, rumbles on and continues to cash in on his name because the heavyweight division the world over is so poor.
To Botha, who was giving Tyson a pretty good fight until he walked on to a right hand in the fifth round of their 1999 brawl and was stopped. Lennox Lewis, however, destroyed Botha in two rounds a year later in London. Botha was challenging for the undisputed heavyweight title that night and looked beaten before the first bell as the usually respectful Lewis walked over to him, arms raised in victory, and stood there for well over a minute in that pose. Ouch!
In recent years the burly South African - now all of 40 - has indulged in the ghastly kickboxing combat sport of K-1, with mixed success, obviously, or he wouldn't be back. Both men can whack a bit, which is the last thing a fighter loses, especially a heavyweight fighter, and both men can be hurt, so we can expects some thrills and spills in this one.
Perhaps Danny, the reigning British champion, is the one with more left.

Re: Williams v Botha
In my opinion Botha will be a much easier fight than McDermott. Botha weighed 258 for his last fight against Bob Mirovic, over a year ago, and that was his first fight in 5 years as well.Boxingmad wrote:He is set on doing both, but he acknowledges that it's a bit tight time-wise.Abbo wrote:Anyone on here know Danny? Re: Danny Williams to fight for WBF title!
In a hasty rematch Danny Williams defends his British heavyweight title against John McDermott at the famous old Ally Pally in north London on November 1. These two gave us a close, exciting, controversial contest for the same title at Dagenham in July. McDermott hurt the champion in the middle rounds but his conditioning lets him down and Williams, despite THREE points lost for various infringements (referee Dave Parris), was able to survive and bang to the body and use his greater experience to retain on a majority decision. On McDermott's Essex manor there were inevitable cries of 'robbery!' This rematch is probably in order.
McDermott, a blubbery 28-year-old from Horndon, certainly made amends for a previous crack at the British title in 2005 when Bedford bear Matt Skelton floored him four times and mauled him inside a round. "Big Bad John" came back with solid wins over Scott Gammer and Pele Reid and is showing power to go with his quick hands and neat boxing skills, these days, but he still fights in spurts. His dad Stan, by the way, was a huge puncher with no chin. Swings and roundabouts, but Stan always had a go and would have been proud of his son's effort in the summer.
Williams is on the downslide of his long career at 35. A pro since 1995, the Brixton Bomber can be hurt these days but hangs in there and has the guts (some would say literally) and natural firepower to punch his way back into the fight and often to victory. He survived three knockdowns at the hands of Kazakhstani brawler Konstantin Airich in Spain in May to win in the seventh round and seems determind to make up for the lost years of his early career when he often tensed up and didn't perform to his best. Danny, so the scary looking Olaf Schroeder recently announced, takes on big white buffalo Frans Botha in the same month as his fight with McDermott, the latter taking place four weeks later in an open-air amphitheatre to be constructed right at the foot of the pyramids. Seems like an awful waste of wood.
Anyway, the Londoner doesn't worry too much about anything nowadays, and eats basically what he wants (occasionally in an oxygen tent) and turns up and fights. Will he beat McDermott again? Probably. One thing is for sure, Dave Parris won't be the referee.

Re: Danny Williams to fight for WBF title!
I think McDermott can't punch for toffee. Consider Reid can be bowled over by a stiff breeze, and while John got the TKO, he hit him with everything and couldn't knock him down.bennie wrote:"Big Bad John" came back with solid wins over Scott Gammer and Pele Reid and is showing power to go with his quick hands and neat boxing skills...
And then to the Williams fight...he spent almost three entire minutes teeing off with nothing but full-blooded power shots to Williams' unprotected head, and again he couldn't knock the guy down (and Williams isn't known for his punch resistance either).
McDermott is a good combination puncher; accurate with good shot selection, but powerful? No.

Mate, don't be deluded. They're both old and overweight. So let's not add over-hyped to the list.
I fancy Danny to win this by TKO, but only because Botha is even more fucked than he is.
