50 million vs 5 million... you do the math, and as we know from Boxing the "best" are Not Always seen or propelled forward, and what about economics- it's often down to who you know - the best British footballers are running around the backstreets & estates NEVER to see a top team, Social deprivation - it's Who you know!

the same is true in Canada for Ice Hockey and other developed nations whatever their sport, sure kids from humble beginnings get advanced, but not compared to the literal tens of thousands that are out there and don't have the family financial abilty, support, know how or connections!

Bullshit. Most football players come from poor backgrounds. The cream will usually rise to the top. If a kid is good enough a scout will come to see him play. If he impresses then he moves up. There is no family financial ability involved - none. And no connections involved either. If the lad is good enough and prepared to work and stay away from drink and drugs, then he'll get his chance.

Same goes for boxing. It's a working class sport, as is soccer. To say that in boxing the best are not always seen or propelled forward is bullshit. The greatest fighters of all time have mostly come from very poor backgrounds. It's the wealthier classes that I believe would be more reluctant to encourage their children to become boxers. Tell me five big name fighters who got to where they did because of who they knew or what financial support their family provided them with. I can't name one. Maybe Chavez Jr is as close as I can get? As (I think) Hopkins once said - it's a lot harder to get out of bed at 5am to go running if your sheets are made out of silk. I.e. there is less hunger, less desire, more at risk.

"and what about economics- it's often down to who you know - the best British footballers are running around the backstreets & estates NEVER to see a top team, Social deprivation - it's Who you know!"

that statement refers to football - and yes poorer kids, thousands of them DON'T have the proper family support or capability and drop off 14-17 or younger, great players never to be seen again, thousands of them. Economic hardship is real and even within that there is still a "who knows who" and favoritism...

Craig Gordon and Alan McGregor would be No 1 & 2.

McFadden would be in with a shout and probably Boyd as well. He's a cokehead but still a clinical striker.

Can you please explain what family support and capability you are talking about? I'd say it's more likely that a wealthy family would be less supportive as they'd be more likely to encourage their children to spend more time on their studies and less time honing their sporting skills. Players of 14-17 years old with potential who usually drop off - the reasons for this are a) they become little chavs and lose interest in their sport b) they join a gang and buy a knife to carry around c) they start getting into drugs d) they start drinking a lot e) they simply are not good enough or have not improved beyond previous potential. Why does that come down to economics?

The usual deluded fan reaction. I guess no Irish, Northern Irish or Welsh players would get in your world-beating squad either?

My arse. At least we're realistic!

The biggest crime the Scottish have ever comitted against the English was Wet, Wet, Wet's Love is all around.

After 127 weeks of that shite in our number 1 slot I wanted to kill Marti Pellow and the Troggs for writing it in the first place.

Was watching a programme last night on the most annoying songs of all time and it was right up there in the top 10!! It got beat by the likes of Barbie Girl, My Heart will go on, It wasn't me (shaggy), The Lord's Prayer (Sir Cliff). But for sheer longevity of annoyingness, it got my vote!!!

If we're going a few years back Winston, then we can talk John Charles and Kenny Dalglish as well then?

I am always calm....

no, he played for English schoolboys because he was at an English school, but he's always been Welsh....

Unlike Michael Owen, who is from Hawarden and played for Wales schoolboys...

Now I'm angry...

Why do you have to exaggerate? Big difference between 127 weeks and 15 weeks.
