Board stitch up Dodson...

Tony Dodson, hampered by recent injury, was planning to return in a non-title six-rounder on the Jason Cook-Kevin Bennett show at Bridgend this weekend according to the Liverpool Echo, only for the Board to veto it.
With a June date for a defence of his British super-middleweight title against Carl Froch confirmed, the chance of Dodson picking up a cut or injury this weekend were too much for the Board.
Indeed BBBC secretary Simon Block contacted Dodson personally to ask him not to take the fight.
Said Dodson: "The board asked me to leave the warm-up this weekend so as not to put the new Nottingham date under any threat.
"Of course at first I was reluctant. After being out for so long I would have preferred a warm-up before boxing Froch, but it makes business sense to stay out of the ring.
"Had I picked up an injury this weekend and was unable to box in four weeks then the Board may have stripped me of the title and allowed Froch to box someone else.
"Seeing as that's the only way he's going to get hold of my belt there was really no question of me boxing this weekend."
The Board have overstepped the mark here. Since when does a so-called Board of Control stop a young, healthy boxer from boxing! Dodson needs the warm-up (hasn't boxed since last November). Froch got in his 12-rounder with Adamu.

That sucks, Dodson is going to be really hampered by this. It's the first time I can recall intervening in this manner, it's not like he's injrued or sick.

Hmm..however, technically speaking, no fight is a "warm up" is it? Not on paper anyway. I see the board's point personally.

I can see both sides' point of view but now the so-called warm-up has been vetoed, maybe Dodson should just crank up his sparring. He's not going to benefit from whacking out someone in two or three rounds, he might as well just do a few more rounds sparring.

Yes, Matchroom boss Barry Hearn has stated he will do that, Mick, but ONE fight for real can make all the difference sometimes prior to a big fight in my humble opinion (Farnell got in that vital six-rounder with Tomas Da Silva prior to destroying Lawrence Murphy, for example). But it's not to be.

is he still with Steve Collins? Thats gone quiet all of a sudden. Surprised they can do this........he'll need good sparring to compensate

Most title fight contracts state each fighter must not fight 4 weeks prior to a title fight.
Dodson is the champion he shouldnt be fighting non title fights and I think his 6 months grace period is nearly up.
