it just hasn't taken off has it  i feared they'd have a problem having no british world champions defending on home soil like a joe calzaghe. so its hard to get any momentum going.

my nan asked me if they showed any boxing on terrestrial tv the other day so that just shows only the select few nutters like us lot know its even on at those sort of times. :x

At what point did the 'revival' break down, and they decided not to show the HBO fights anymore? Will they continue to show Audley's fights? I bloody hope so otherwise there will be NO way of seeing them, he'd have to go to sky, which is unimaginable.

They never really gave it a go tho did they, irregular screen times either on grandstand or midnite on a sunday or friday or not at all, I mean come on its pathetic what do they expect, a 7 pm Sunday slot would have had decent figs on bbc2 instead of fred dibnahs world of blowing up tower blocks...sheesh

I don't know but I have always would have thought that some people may have complained about the Sunday night slot. People might have complained that showing violence on a Sunday is not the best thing to do morally.

I am sure that obviously some people at the Beeb are not impressed with the sport, thinks it encourages violence, and I'm sure alot of do-gooders are complaining about it as being a bad influence for their kids. Thats the only reason why I can think of that they would treat it like this.

I understand that boxing is a minority sport, but its not exactly hard to get into (you soon find out who are the good boxers etc). I'm sure it does alot better ratings than other sports shown on Grandstand.

Remember, not to long ago Benn vs McCelllan attracted 12 million viewers, and Eubank and Benn have had a number of Prime time shows on terrestial TV before, during and after their fights (and all relating to their rivalary). I don't doubt that if done probably it could happen again and any TV company would give their right arm for viewing figures.

With ITV securing Parky - its not looking good there.

what pissed me off was not showing british boxers in world title fights such as reid-ottke and woods-johnson live :x they were showing em at 11.30 and thats too late  i even fell asleep and missed the 2nd woods-johnson fight.

thats been the problem not having a british world champ who regularly defends his title over here like a joe calzaghe at peak times.

hmm never thought of it that way mate, good point re the Sunday thing, never entered my mind.
But we could have something lilke an hour long round up on Monday or midweek then. I mean it wouldnt be that expensive to sort out kind of a Beeb equivilent of ringside type thing but just with the weeks highlights from the fights scheduled.
anything I mean anything is better than nothing and thats what we have a the moment.
I was chatitng to a guy from the beeb not so long ago and he said part of the reason was some of the quality of the fights has been below what they expected and lacking in excitement, particularly citing Eastmans last performance which to be fair was akin to watchin toe nails grow! (worse than grass not as aesthetically pleasing  )
Its very sad imo cos there are a lot of people who have interest out there its just no that accesssible to them, a casual fan isnt likely to sit in every sat at 8 pm to watch Sky (thats if they have it) or stay up at 2 am to watch the re-run / get up at 7 am IF its being shown again.
The beeb and ITV have the power to do something about this, they just arent giving it a go IMO.
that sucks immeasurably

There is virtually no boxing on the BBC any more, no delayed broadcasts of any of the big fights on the other side of the atlantic, and sod all besides, those late night BBC shows seem to have dissapeared.

I hate to say it, but it looks like Nasty was right about the BBC's coverage atrophying....

I would really like ITV do get involved again. I believe Gary Newbon was and still is high up in the ITV sport thing. ITV have been inferior to BBC in many sporting occasion, but they always got the boxing spot on. I have copies of the old "Big Fight Live" shows and the got the mix between hype and action spot on - they wouldn't need to update their format at all, cause it still feels fresh.

Gary Newbon knew how to deliver a good boxing show, so I can only encourage him to do it again. The major problem (as has been with the BBC) is with who. As you said J, Howard Eastman fights haven't been the most exiting and the Beeb seem to have no option but to put the all their eggs into two baskets (which is Carl Froch and Audley), they tried with David Walker and "The Warrior" got outclassed, Eastman can't sell, Woods has lost, Damean Kelly has lost. Who is left? Only Carl Froch and Audley, who are in the early stages of their career.

With all the other major promotional companies signed up to other franchises - who is left for ITV (or any other TV company).

What about David Haye. If his next fight proves to be against bigger opposition as has been suggested he is likely to continue in that manner.

Lets hope so, but he is just a pup - I don't particularly want the Beeb to be hyping him up yet.

True but Froch and Audley haven't fought that many more fights.
