How do you guys do this?

The general consensus amongst us is that Joe Calzaghe, Kelly Pavlik and Manny Pacquiao make up the top 3 in no particular order. Their merit is based on results, titles, calibre of opponents and moving through the weights. Shold performances also be put in there?

Juan Manuel Marquez in my opinion is p4p number one. He's a multiple title holder at different weights plus i also think he's 2-0 against Manny Pacquiao. Should his performance outdo the result and install him at number one, or does Manny gettin the decision give him more stength.

Its a tough call, I think a little bit of everything needs to be measured - but mainly (for me) victories against solid opposition. For me, I have Pacquiao #1 and Marquez #2 - mainly because of Pacquiao wins (and the manner of them) over Barrera and Morales. I think there fights against each other have been to close to call - although I also swayed with Marquez both times. I think though Marquez's win over Casamayor makes it very close, and I have no qualms about him being #1 - Casamayor was the number 1 in the Devision (for me) not Diaz.

I have Joe at #3..... Pavlik is a tough one to rank, I aint 100% convinced still, he struggled with Taylor and a case could be made for Taylor winning only 1 world title fight (vs Ouma). I think having such a young champion (1 defense) at 4 is a little lofty, but there is no one else really shouting for that position. Maybe time to consider someone like Fernando Montiel.

DLH and Hopkins, two part time fighters are tough to rank. DLH is not going to gain any respect or places for beating the #1 P4P fighter in December, but he did run the former P4P number 1 to a very very close decision... and same with Hopkins with a top #3 guy. Maybe Hopkins should be ranked higher than Pavlik?

I would say the consensus top5 P4P all have their flaws in resume and stylistic errors. None will be there in 2 years time. I personally see Joan Guzman as the P4P number 1, theres a reason Pacquaio and Marquez wouldn't go near him and its because he'd beat them both in the same night. Sadly he's pissed his career up the wall by coming in overweight

Stu's pretty much summed my feelings up there. When ranking P4P I look at their record, and the manner in which they won, but the result is more important to me. I have Pacman higher than Marquez with JM at #2, Calzaghe at #3 and #4 is harder. Maybe Vazquez at #4.

Pavlik isn't even top 5 for me yet and I too am not convinced. Hopkins is good at seperating the wheat from the chaff so we will see.

I don't bother with all the fighting at the same weight crap. It's too contentious.

Surely he has to beat Abraham or Sturm first to really cement that kind of ranking?

Having said that, summoning 10 alternatives is no easier.

Its tough aint it. Miguel Cotto spent a long time there, now he's been halted by Margarito, who's been beaten by Williams, who was defeated by Quintana, who was destroyed by Cotto.

Mkaes a mess doesnt it. I think Margarito has gotta be the highest on ranked out of the above. Although it is ridicolously close.

Tough call - I place Pacman at one for the quality of the fighters he's beaten, mostly at their prime, Calzaghe second because of the sheer quality of his handiwork and speed of movement, Vazquez three for his blood and guts qualities and JMM four for his classic counter punching. Totally different criteria, but they work for me.

I think once you hit 30, things like arguing if a 180 pound Barerra could beat a 180 pound Lennox Lewis seem faintly ridiculous.

Well Calzaghe only beat him on a split decision so why shouldn't he be ranked just behind him considering he spent most of his career at a lower weight than Joe and has achieved more at Light Heavy in almost shutting out Tarver. He may be a spoiler and a bore, but Hops is still a nightmare for every other fighter out there.
