Would have liked to be born just after th 2nd World war. That way i'd hit the Sixties at a quality age. Good music, politically notorious and you get to see England win the World cup.

I actually was, (1945). In many ways it was a perfect time to be born. I remember the Russians crashing a sputnik onto the Moon and putting the first man into space. All the Apollo missions by the Americans and the landing on the Moon in 1969. The 1966 World cup. The rock n roll years with Elvis Presley, Tommy Steele, Cliff Richard, Marty Wilde, Billy Fury, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran etc. Then came the sixties and the beginning of Merseysound when we hit back at the Americans and showed them what we could do. The Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, The Swinging Blue Jeans etc. At the same time the Rolling Stones challenged the Beatles for chart position, the only group capable of that. Very exciting times but for most of us times were hard as wages were very poor. There were plenty of jobs and nobody needed to be out of work. I could go to the pictures and buy fish and chips all for less than 20p. My first wage was about £3.80. That was for 48 hours, the standard week in those days. I took home £3.51 and had to give my parents £1.50 board. I had a hard job buying clothes, bus fares to work and back, a bit of baccy and going out with my mates, all on the remaining £2.00. I had to save to buy shoes, they cost between £1.50 and £2.00. My Dad bought me my first suit £15.00, a collosal sum of money back then. If you were rich you could buy a Rolls Royce Corniche for about £8000.00 circa 1960. Phones then were a luxury and very few people had them. TVs were so expensive most people rented them. Wages during much of the sixties were frozen, the only people who got a pay rise were MPs and the Government. Why we stood for that I dont know. Great times, but hard times but I am still glad I lived through them.

To live In some those old backward times you would have to be wealthy. I would of liked to see some of the old architecture that existed back then though until modern philistines knocked them down for souless crap we get now.

I can fully understand why you prefer modern times but the truth is there has never been an ideal time to be born. Every time period has things for and against, I suppose its how you balance things out. Most young people find it hard to imagine a life before mobile phones and computers. As a boy I had a ten minute walk to a phone box to contact a friend. Today we can phone, text, email, go on facebook whatever from home or anywhere to talk to our friends, its a very different World these days and as far as communication goes things are very much better.

I'd say they were very much worse. You can stay in touch with MORE people but why? I have mates who have 240 friends on Facebook - some ex-girlfriends of mine that he barely knows - and no he aint after a jump, its just attempting to look popular and connected.

If you died tomorrow, how many of the 240 would turn up to the funeral.....9? 12? 4?

Not that I dont have a few I barely know, or I've made contact with a fighter or two under auspices of an interview but other than that....but the point remains.

Communication is worse, its just facile, shallow, cheap, meaningless contact. A bit like the 1990's were for K-G.

Got to experience the technology revolution first hand and the entertainment it brings - from Space Invaders to the Playstation, 3 TV channels to Sky TV. Internet, mobile phones. Recreational drugs are widely available these days.

We have mates, work colleagues, neighbours we may call friends, but how many of them would do absolutely anything to help you. If people could be really honest they would probably admit they have dozens of mates but maybe only one friend if they are lucky. So on just one hand, four fingers and a thumb, if you can count in a lifetime five true friends you have been truly blessed. True friends are often still there after your wives and girlfriends have gone.

For friends it depends where you live, if you live in a big city then i think it would be less really close friends, live in a smaller place and friends are around for longer

Noooo. Living in a town is just as bad, if not worse than a city.

Theres so many people in a city and lots to do, but in a run down town there are so many crappy chavs/sluts etc. Its well poor.

Depends what part of the country you are in really, I much prefer to stay where I am than live somewhere like London or Manchester.
