Calzaghe hits back at Frank

Post by scotty »

Lol looks like Franks outburst the other day has upset Enzo aswell. I wonder if there might be a breakdown now with some of the other Calzaghe stable and SN.

I'm always suprised that a sjillfull, tough promoter like allegedly FW is so sensitive. If Calzaghe wants to go elsewhere, let him.Why sour a good relationship. He just can't help himself it seems -first with Naz, then Hatton, now with Calzaghe. It need'nt be that way.I know whose side I'm on -Calzaghe's -both him and his father are fan friendly, staright down the line and good people, not to mention exceptional at their jobs.

i wondered whether or not he'd leave it with calzaghe.

given the fact calzaghe only wants 1 more fight anyway.

but this just shows how pathetic he is.

If Joe's not bothered about money than why Is he fighting a shot Roy?

He said Roy Vs Tito was a joke months ago too but said there getting paid alot and wants to go that route too.

Didn't Cleverly leave the Calzaghe stable?

Could be why Frank kept alot of his boxers so low profile on WBO and WBU fights because his best always left him. Joe has said alot of things In his book which he Is contradicting now.

One thing that puzzles me is the matter of $4.5million SN allegedly owe Calzaghe. I've read elsewhere that the money is allegedly owed from the BHOP fight. I don't think I've ever heard of SN not paying their fighters before. Maybe they're just withholding the money until the contract dispute is settled?

Calzaghe 'shackled'????

Post by johnftiz »

Does anyone really buy this from the Welshman?

From being a relative unknown, FW has made the man a fortune. It is no secret that he has withdrawn from ALOT of fights, which could have potentially fast-tracked his rise to fame (post-Lacy), but it has to be noted that he has not played the media machine as well as he could have done.

I know of one incident when he was given a Mercedes by the Cardiff branch, for bugger all, and in return all he had to do was to be seen driving about in it and turn up for a couple of press shoots in the branch. He did this, but arrived at the shoot driving a BMW M3!!!! What a berk! maybe he is just a bit dim, but there are certain things even Joe Calzaghe CBE should be able to work out.

I am not doubting his awesome talent as a fighter, but you do have to have a think about the comments he has made about being 'shackled'. Maybe he should have let the shackles off his attitude in the ring as well, and not pulled out of so many fights citing injuries.

Thoughts?

I can't be arsed to rewrite my thoughts on this.

I composed them, for probably the 37th time here.

Jst read his interview in Boxing News. He claims he should have had unification fights following his victory over Eubank instead of fighting former champions suh as Reid and Woodhall. Surely Joe should have forced his promoter's hand regarding this issue.

Some of his criticisms aimed at Pavlik are a little far fetched as well.

I agree. Calzaghe keeps slagging Pavlik, but at the end of the day, it appears Pavlik is more enthusiastic about making the fight than Calzaghe is. Calzaghe is fighting Jones, not Pavlik is he? For his legacy, it would be better for Joe to box Pavlik, instead of a guy who nowhere near the package he once was.

Pavlik is near his prime, Roy Jones is shot. No disrespect to Jones, but if Calzaghe doesn't win comfortably then Joe must be on the slide himself!

Am i alone in wanting Jones to win?

My criticisms of Calzaghe are similar to everyone elses. Joe had an opportunity to be a boxing legend. The debate of where he ranks in British boxing history could have been settled sevral years ago if Joe just would have relinquished the WBO Title and pursued other challengers apart from average Europeans and inadequate mandatories.

The Americans on Calzaghe's CV came with prior losses, and not one came with a half decent chance. The Lacy victory papered over some cracks but since that night, the one-dimensional American has proved to be nothing more than ordinary at world level.

Names like Pudwill, Salem, Thornberry, McIntyre and Manfredo could have been replaced with stars like a prime Jones Jnr, a prime Hopkins, Toney, Tarver, Wright, Taylor and Ottke. Convincing performances against the latter guys whether in victory or defeat gives us a better indication of what Joe's credentials should have been.

When ranking Calzaghe once his career is up, i really don't know how to rate him. How good was he really? His reluctance to mix in genuine p4p class gives me no idea how good Joe was.

I finally find something to agree with Terry D on, I think your being a bit unfair, missed the big fights from 1997-2006, but 2006-2008 you couldnt ask for more from the kid. Well fights with Pavlik, Taylor and Chad Dawson would be good but you cant get everything

Unsurprisingly, most people here would say, I completely agree with Terry here but will add I think Joe is the best managed fighter ever. Some people say Joe wasted his talent - I reckon Joe maximised his talent to be a 10 year champ.

What would have happend had Joe fought a prime Hopkins, a prime Jones, a prime Toney (and a few others) - lose, lose, lose. Joe's good, but I don't band the phrase legends and all time greats easily - and these three are that.

They are both as bad as each other. Warren received over a decade of comfortable money from Joe's back and Joe likewise. Warren never took the risks of placing him in more meaningful fights earlier on and Joe went along with it and accepted it. Nobody can say it was through being naive or inexperienced because he had been boxing a long time and was in his early thirties when things should have happened.

At the end of the day (look I'm starting to use Joe's quotes) both Warren and Joe both walk away from each other as multi-millionaires so should both be men and accept neither of them forced the career issue.

At least after the Vilches and Stewart fights, there were big rumblings in the press that Hatton wanted something big next or else he was off. Hatton forced the issue to some extent, Joe simply never did.
