Tim Witherspoon v Paul Fiske more EBF nonsense

THE European Boxing Federation have pulled in another huge name for their seventh white-collar boxing show in the region.

Former WBC world heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon will take on local lad Paul Fiske at the Lancastrian Suite in Dunston on Wednesday, October 15.

“Following on from our show with Tony Tucker we are delighted to lure someone of Tim’s calibre to Tyneside,” said promoter Steve Wraith.

“Tim will headline against Paul Fiske who gained a creditable draw against Tucker in May.”

Dave Redhead, Paul O’Hagan, Micky Mags, Lee Rogan, Gary Firby, Scott Docherty and Lee Roadhouse are on the undercard.

Holy shit - and more about Tucker than Witherspoon! I knew Witherspoon was angling at a comeback, but never knew Tucker has been fighting unlicensed. Did anybody see it? Considering he was shot to pieces 10 or more years ago...

Shocking match this. Was up on Tyneside a few months ago and watched Ian Cooper (former Northern Area and British Masters) LIGHT-MIDDLEWEIGHT champion KO Fiske in a couple of rounds. Very nice fella is Fiske but shot to pieces and will get hurt here unless Witherspoon is boxing to orders.

Yes, but is there anything to suggest Witherspoon isn't as far gone as Tucker must be to have been held to a draw by Fiske?

Cooper was a decent pro who quit with the hump. I think we discussed him here a while ago.

These EBF shows actually look quite good. I know they are not really for the traditonal fan, but given time (whether it is a good thing or a bad thing) I think we will see more pros go towards these shows, easy money, no red tape.
