Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Paquiaio
I just read on another web site that manny p fancies his chances against floyd, if he comes through against De La Hoya. What are your thoughts? Personally, I think De La Hoya will whack him out of there, and tht Floyd would really do a job on him.A shame as manny p looks like the best lightweight in the world, and should stick there

If i was manny and some fighter was offering me 10-15 million dollars to go to welterweight even thou i would lose i would still fight him.big lennox wrote:I just read on another web site that manny p fancies his chances against floyd, if he comes through against De La Hoya. Floyd would SMASH Pac-man. Look what Marquez did, and he doesn't have the athletic talent of Floyd.
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Paquiaio
If the DLH vs Pacquiao fight is at 154 - DLH should win.
If the DLH vs Pacquiao fight is at 147 - Geniune dangerous fight.
Even at 154 I don't think its the gimmie people say it is - I mean to say, Duran was a big Lightweight and went on to win the Middleweight title (and did so past his prime). No one said Duran vs Hagler shouldn't be sanctioned, or that it was a joke fight (despite Duran getting whalloped Hearns at 154).
Okay, Pacquiao is a good bit smaller than Duran, but then Oscar is a good bit smaller than Hagler/Barkley also. His best weight was at Lightweight/Light Welter. He doesn't have to boil himself from 12 + stone (well only if he has let himself go).
I really don't think there is that much in the weight difference between Mayweather and Pacquiao, and Mayweather didn't look very destrictive at Lightweight and even less so at Welterweight.
If the fight is at 147 - I might even favour Pac Man... see how they look in weigh in.

Hagler is 5ft 8 I think? DLH 5'11- Hagler weighed more but apparently DLH is quite a big fella.
Pac is a small man - Duran was much much naturally bigger than Pac.
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Paquiaio
I felt the same as you until it was announced that the fight wouldn't be cancelled if DLH is over the limit, just fined $3m for each lb over. I think he'll come in at 150 and sacrifice $9m. He'll still make shit loads.stujones wrote:If the fight is at 147 - I might even favour Pac Man... see how they look in weigh in.

Damn, I wish my financial predicament was one where-by I wouldn't mind sacrificing $9M! I think De La Hoya will be within the limit.

DLH / Pacman is a terrible excuse for a superfight. A cynical mismatch between a middleweight and a JrLightweight - shows just how bad the state of boxing is, when you have to put a freak show like this on.
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Paquiaio
You don't have to exaggerate. There's 15 lbs between these guys. 135 lbs vs 150 lbs.MightyWarrior wrote:DLH / Pacman is a terrible excuse for a superfight. Mayweather would easily beat Paquiaio imo
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Paquiaio
Come on MW, now I am a DLH fan so will be accused of Bias - but to call DLH a Middleweight and then to labell Pacquiao a Super Feather is a bit extreme.MightyWarrior wrote:DLH / Pacman is a terrible excuse for a superfight. DLH got KTFO at Middleweight and won a dubious decision....... Pacquiao just KO'd Diaz to win the Lightweight title.
If you want to call Pacquiao a bulked up Super Feather, fine - but at least call DLH a bulked up Welter, which is what he is. Pacquiao is now a big Super Feather/Small Lightweight.... DLH is now a big Welter/small Light Middle - as showed by his Middleweight effort.

Well Stu, you can say Manny Pac is a bonafide lightweight, but is he really? Sure he beat an outclassed strap holder last time out, but he hasn't even had a chance to settle at the weight, before Sir Oscar beckons him upwards.stujones wrote:

I remember Eric Morales saying how it takes time and a few fights to settle at a new weight, and that was just him moving up 2 or 3 pounds. Not forgeting Hatton's struggles at 147 either.
So Manny now steps up yet again to near 140 I'd guess, and will have a P4P opponent weighing in near 155 for this fight - that is one hell of an advantage.
Look at the left hook bomb that Oscar puts over iron chinned Mayorga with, and imagine the effect it'll have on the much smaller PacMan.
Another carefully picked opponent from Oscar, whose mega watt smile hides a cycnical nature.
It's going to be a sickening mismatch I think.
Any one else think Oscar tanked it against Hop? Gasp!
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Paquiaio
Manny Pacquaio is a fully fledged Lightweight. He was a huge drainer at Super Featherweight and is a big drainer at Lightweight. Pacman apparently weighed in at 147 lbs on the night against David Diaz.

Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Paquiaio
Pacman weighs around 144 on fight night, Delahoya weighs 160. The size deifference is similar to Delahoya-Chavez but this time Pacquaio is the 1 who's the prime fighter. Pacquaio won't have to weight drain as he usually does so this will help him too, Delahoya will be using diuretics to pick on a smaller man, but Pacquaio typically uses diuretics to pick on smaller men himself. I thinks its interesting and Pacquaio may just pull the upset. Mayweather schools Pacquaio however
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Paquiaio
MW,
I think you misread my point - I was being Pedantic maybe, but to call DLH a MIDDLEWEIGHT is way off. He was a fat Middleweight and who looked slow and with no power vs Sturm (thats when he was bang on the weight) - against Hopkins he was better but then he was way inside the Middleweight limit and was still ultimately outstrengthed. DLH admitted after, Middleweight is above my station.
Now you can call Pacquiao a Super Feather, I have no qualms with that - but Oscar is a SMALL Light Middle at most, not a Middleweight. Its a bit like calling a fight between Enzo Mac and Calzaghe a Heavyweight vs a Super Middleweight..... when it simply isn't. DLH is no more a Middleweight as Enzo is a Heavyweight.
DG - You can get a small framed/boned tall freak of a guy who can crawl up the weights - but just because DLH is a few inches taller than Hagler doesn't mean to say he was the stronger fighter at Middleweight.... cause he wasn't.
Tyson is 5 foot 9, does that mean the 6 ft+ Enzo Mac could make Heavyweight and be stronger than him. How DLH made Super Feather is beyond me, but he was a fat/slow/weak Middleweight despite being taller than several of the champions before him. If weight was all to do with height then nobody would be cynical of the Gainer vs Khan match up (if it happens) cause Gainer is taller.

Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Paquiaio
to be honest, I wouldn't put anything past the great pacman, he's an out and out phenom. But it looks a ridiculous ask, he should be looking for the big fights at lightweight, Valero and co, but no way can he turn down the bucks on offer for this one, I understand that.
But to me Oscar is looking for blood money here, he'll be banking on crushing the much smaller fighter, prime or no prime, and I think that's what will happen, and it'll be sickening to watch.
And Floyd would box Pacmans ears off, probably not losing a round.

I did not mean to imply that DLH was stronger, I was just trying to say that DLH is not actually too far away from Hagler in terms of size - DLH is tall and quite broad.stujones wrote:MW,

Hagler is 1n inch taller than Pacman but Pacman is nowhere near Haglers size.
Pacman is not tall and not broad an at best is a lightweight by today's standards.

The fight's a joke. The HBO crew will be cringing while commentating.
