Answer me this...

Post by bennie »

Takaloo looks to win the WBU light-middleweight title for the third time when he faces Ossie Duran, the reigning Commonwealth welterweight champion, at the York Hall next week (Thursday May 13).
The Margate puncher suffered a surprise points defeat to Manchester-based Portugese Eugenio Monteiro in January in an eight-rounder and was stripped of his WBU light-middleweight title. WBU rules dictate that any champion who takes part in a non-title bout - and loses - is stripped of the belt.
But why isn't Monteiro getting a return for the title? Duran is a natural welterweight!

This is a disgrace! Takaloo should be facing Monteiro for the vacant title.

It is absolutely, utterly farcical. Takaloo will probably be a 10-time WBU champ by the time he's done.

Can't see it being much different from the first to be honest. Jones vs Moore I'm talking about. Jones vs Tak, I predict the same result as their first fight (Jones win).

I can't wait for the Moore-Jones rematch, Jones is now with a new trainer, and as demonstrated in his last fight, can now punch with a bit of power. I'm not saying he's a knockout artist or anything, but I feel he's got enough pop in his mits to discourage Moore. As long as he keeps the fight on the outside, it's a fight he can win.

Tak is quite good at having a verbal pop, I'll give him that:

Yes, the farce never ends. He may as well wrap a roll of toilet paper around his waist as that is all this 'world crown' is worth. Some of the WBU 'world championship' matchups are straight out the world of Alice in Wonderland. But what next? Takaloo as WBU Super Champion? Lawrence Murphy as WBU Champion Emeritus?

The irony of it all.

It wasn't that long back that a certain promoter was giving the WBF title a verbal bashing, and now lo and behold we have this.

I still think SKY tv are as much at fault as anyone else tbh.

Thats true, SKY have the power to veto these cradboard titles and insist upon more quality matches. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) I'm finding it increasingly hard to keep an interest in the current boxing scene, especially at home!..   :-? :-? ..last Saturdays match between Cook and Bennett was just abysmal.. :o :o :o .. I was just sitting there watching it and thinking to myself 'we are being told that this is a 'world title fight'... :x :x :x :x :x ... enougth is enougth!...     . we are even treated to snippets like 'is Cook ready for the likes of Mayweather etc!!!....Christ!.... next we'll be hearing that Takaloo is going to fight Delahoya!!!...

Sky's boxing coverage used to be excellent, but I think it lost the plot around the Eubank World Tour era.

Now we're subjected to "world title fights" between fighters who are often good to excellent at the domestic level, but are no way world class. Some aren't even good at their respective domestic level.

I'd much rather watch the best two British boxers in the ring for a British title bout than watch much more of these phoney world title fights. Or even better, why not also show more of the true World Champions in action?
