Don Curry's manager dead at 61

Fort Worth boxing manager Dave Gorman died Wednesday at a nursing home in the city. He was 61.
Gorman, who died of stomach cancer, managed world champions Don Curry, Steve Cruz, Gene Hatcher and Troy Dorsey. All of them trained in his gym in Fort Worth.
"During that period in the 1980s, he was absolutely the leading manager in the country," Top Rank president Bob Arum said. "He had a group of fighters that were truly outstanding. They were the most popular and well-regarded fighters in the sport. He had Curry, Hatcher, Robin Blake and Cruz. That was an unbelievable collection of guys.
"I haven't seen it since."

Until he had the shock loss to Honeyghan and soon after met an even better fighter, Mike McCallum. McCallum has to be one of the most underrated fighters ever - he was simply awesome at 154.

Becuase he was Jamaican (or more to the point not American) he got overlooked.

Gorman seemed a very good manager... the way he guided Stevei Cruz to victory over Barry Mcguigan was great work.

Yes they were certainly two clinical KO's.

I always felt that Mike McCallum may have had the beating of Tommy Hearns at 154/160lbs.
