Anybody know what is going on with this guy? I thought he had made a comeback, yet he hadn't fought this year and has nothing scheduled. So I looked him up and found his "Official" website as undefeated boxer now redirects to this "Vote Joe Mesi For State Senate" site, showing him in a suit with American flag draped behind him... I take it his boxing career is now over? With a record of 36-0 (30 KOs) and ranked #1 contender by the WBC prior to his initial 2 yr layoff, isn't it strange how a white American fighter with such a record (including wins over Barrett & Jirov) in todays poor quality heavyweight division sprinkled with alphabet titles, could possibly be retiring without ever being a world champion?

Joe Mesi was born in Tonawanda and raised in a blue collar family. His father, Jack, was a Buffalo cop, and his late mother, Barbara, was a secretary. Joe was raised with a strong sense of community values, and a belief in giving back to the region he loves.

Joe is running for State Senate to bring an independent voice, strong leadership, and Western New York values back to Albany.

In 2001, Joe earned an Associate in Arts and Science degree from Erie County Community College as a member of the National Dean’s List and National Honor Society. He also attended D’Youville College, majoring in education. Joe is a graduate of Sweet Home High School in Amherst.

To this day, Joe has one of the longest active undefeated professional heavyweight boxing records in the world – a perfect 36-0. Joe is a former #1 heavyweight contender in the world, a three-time New York State Golden Gloves champion, and an alternate on the 1996 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team.

Much of Joe’s success in boxing is due to the people of Western New York and the support of the community. Early in his boxing career, Joe was under a great deal of pressure from the boxing establishment to move away from Western New York. He was told he’d never make it in professional sports if he stayed in the area. Joe told the so-called experts they were wrong, and the people of Western New York rallied behind him and together they proved the boxing world was wrong.

While best known for his achievements as an athlete, Joe has also created and run a very successful business, Baby Joe LLC. In this capacity, he has negotiated with the best and the toughest characters in the sports and entertainment world and he’s come out on top. These negotiations haven’t only benefited Joe’s business – they’ve generated approximately $6 million in revenue for Western New York by selling out the HSBC arena three times.

Throughout his adult life, Joe has used his success as a professional athlete to give back to the community he loves. In 2002, he founded Baby Joe Mesi’s Fight for Organ Donation in honor of his cousin, Genelle Shanor. He has been an active participant in numerous local charities and civic groups.

Joe knows it will take more than the same tired old political promises to get our region back on track – it will take a fighter. Joe Mesi is a fighter, and he’s ready to fight for us in the State Senate.

As our State Senator, Joe will:

Mesi is not a stupid bloke, i think he realised he was never going to be world champ, so why not move into politics, and he can always say he was undefeated and didn't get the oppurtunities.
