Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
Re: Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
I think Gethin's a comfortable 4th place. He's stopped two good fighters who are really light welterweights.
Limond's not had many fights at lightweight has he? I can only think of two fights, Allotey (W12) and Khan (LTKO). Good sharp boxer though.

Has Khan got to be impressive against Gethin to restore people's faith?

Re: Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
Exactly, we expected someone like Gainer. Maybe Warren has decided the protection has to be over and its make or break time for Khan. Logically though, you cant be shouting about being a World champion, get beaten, and then take soft fights. If you do your credibility dissapears and you get people taking the piss. Apart from Khan, Murray, Thaxton and Gethin are Britains best, so Gethin has to be the best pick. They can all hit but Murray and Thaxton would be too risky IMO after such a loss. If the fight is made, great stuff, and it should be a cracker.Chambers2 wrote:Respect to Khan if it is Gethin next up

Gethin is taller than 5'6.
I was stood next to John Fewkes in the changing room who was about 5'7 and Gethin was a lot taller.
Here is Gethin v Fewkes which i uploaded :-
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=ELUph-4yQKs
He is a big strong lightweight and could push Khan back until he stops him around round 9.
He stopped Siddique impressively before Fewkes who was a former england captain and a 22-0 Ingle fighter.

Good comeback fight, really positive move and exactly what he needs to do. A good win here and it's a major step back, assuming no shocks on the way, that is.
Re: Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
Source: http://www.sportinglife.com/boxing/news ... tlead.htmlMeanwhile, Limond has turned down a request from Sports Network to fight Amir Khan's conqueror, Breidis Prescott, on October 10 in Liverpool.
Limond, who was angered by the referee's delay in conducting an eight-second count after he knocked down Khan in their meeting, said: "October 10 was just too short notice to face Prescott.
"It is a fight that I would love to take in the future, but I would need more time to prepare for what would be a tough assignment."
Interesting stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing Prescott's next fight.
Re: Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
I'm really looking forward to seeing Prescott again, but I do wonder if his victory over Khan will end up a being a bad thing for him. He now looks like to be fighting under the allegedly banner. He has just beaten the WBO #1 contender - it looks like the WBO title mess has now cleared with Guzman surely out of the picture.... Campbell needs a mandatory.
Will Prescott get the Campbell fight - will he feck as likely.... planned on fighting Willie Limond a guy Khan KO'd a few fights back, that is a massive step back for Prescott who at 26, doesn't have the time Khan had.
He should be WBO mandatory now and FW should be pressing for a title fight.

if he had fought limmond and spanked him in the 1st then i suppose he is the real deal
Re: Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
Definitely, Prescott needs a more international focus.
Khan had trouble with Michael Gomez's body shots, so you never know. Gethin might do well. He is much slower, but he has strengths (physical strength, doggedness) that can perhaps trouble Khan. Siddique and Fewkes were faster than Gethin and it didn't end up mattering. Big test for Gethin but I hope he wins.

Re: Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
Okay worst case scenario for Khan is he loses to Gethin and even worse than that he gets KO'd again.
Would there possibly be any way back if he did/was? It would leave the Roach deal in tatters and where would Franky go with him next?
Khan has a bucketload riding on this fight; I think it could shape the remainder of his career.

gethin is a good fight.
if castle is impressive against earl ..he should be next
then gareth crouch/william kickett (who has x factor but beatable)
then take on richard abril who took prescott the distance in a tough one.
all winnable and then khan is back in the limelight again

hahahahaha well there we have it, we can see the result of a fight from fighter x's heaght alone we have truly progressed to a new era of boxrec predictions.boxrec wrote:Gethin is listed at 5ft 6 here on boxrec. That should be quite easy for Khan!
too slow? they were saying that about Prescott before he sparked Khan as well.
fair play if khan takes Gethin. he may not be cute or fast but he is solid, relentless as fcuk, always in the gym very fit, and had two excellent wins back to back so will be confident. gethin can take Khan into deep, deep water in a way that is unlikely to show up on a record chart mr boxrec
Re: Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
Not a bad plan. BUT, Kickett was unimpressive beating St Clair. Some say he was lucky. I don't know whether that should rule him out as pointless, or make him a good pick for an opponent.

we'll see
my opinion on Gethin is formed on a bit more than just checking his height on boxrec and watching a youtube clip mate I've seen plenty of him. he can beat Khan and if he does it could be brutal.
then we can have 3 fights in a row I said Gethin could win and no other bugger believed it, then as usual after the fight everyone will be talking about his opponent and not martin, people can underestimate him all they like and the quiet man keeps rolling on 8)

exactly 'barn, Khan ain't that much faster than Sid, i have seen them both in the flesh. the pace gethin will set and the pressure he will apply- he's good at cutting the ring off- will make the weight-drained kahn feel uncomfortable for sure. and Gethin bangs the body well. watch Khan get his 'confused little boy without good boxing instincts or brain' expression on his face when Gethin isn't going anywhere after 4-5 rounds. khan got that expression vs Kristiaansen so gethin will seem like Freddie Krueger and jason from The Omen rolled into one 8)Autobarn wrote: Siddique and Fewkes were faster than Gethin and it didn't end up mattering. IMO Khan had better get gethin out of there fast, or in the late rounds- Gethin's more comfortable at the weight IMO- he will get swamped

Re: Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
I agree, far, far better than he is being given credit for. Gethin proved he was better than Fewkes but that isnt the way it is being seen by some. Thats a rematch I would like to see sometime. Gethin would stand a very good chance against Khan so it will potentially be one hell of a fight. Khan will have to look good against Gethin at the very least to keep his career alive.Counter-puncher wrote:![]()

i would try and start a bandwagon but i don't think that fits the quiet man's style. like i say keep a close eye on khan's facial expression to see when his arse falls out

Calm down everybody, it's not as though this fight is a done deal. This is a fight that may, or may not happen. Who started this thread anyway?

Re: Khan-Gethin proposed fight moved to 13th December
Khan is still very much at domestic level and still only a prospect. Most young fighters are looking at winning and defending a Lonsdale belt and then trying to win the Euro title. In other words working their way up and then if they are good enough challenging for a World title. With Khan none of that mattered, he wanted to run before he could walk and get up there with the big names ASAP. Warren wanted Khan to take things more slowly, knowing Khan would come unstuck if he rushed the process. Now Khan has to take a reality check, prove himself domestically and see how far he can go. The trouble is he is still saying he will win a World title. He may believe that, on the other hand it may just be words to sell himself. Whatever happens it wont be easy working his way back and the Gethin fight if it happens will be a tough rung on the ladder. Gethin is a risky fight to take, but lets be honest if he cant beat Gethin, talk of winning a World title is pure nonesense. If Khan was to lose at this level I think his career would be over. He has to win and win convincingly to move on.

Yet Michael Gomez says he has no power, just a barrage of accurate shots.boxrec wrote:I wouldn't mind what the outcome is, Gethin could prove me wrong. I wonder what the betting odds are/would be for this fight?Counter-puncher wrote:![]()

I admit i haven't seen much of gethin, but i think the boxrec boards are severley underestimating Khans ability (after losing to prescott).
:) Never under-estimate the power of the Khan.

aye, if you haven't seen much of him or any other fighter you might want to moderate statements like 'fighter x will destroy fighter y (who i haven't seen much of'

Maybe true but Joe can take a shot and he is proven World class. Khan is still a domestic prospect who gets KOd. Maybe Joe didnt stop Lacy but he made a bloody mess of his face, yet some claim he only slaps.
