boxrec fighter rating

Post by gerry »

how can kashif mumtaz 2-6-1 be ranked 10 places higher than mckay 8-4-2 in the world rankings
i understand that box rec uses equations but obviously this shows a major flaw please tell me it is a mistake

box rec is not the only one the ANBF has casey ahead of foley when foley is underfeated and beat casey in aus LHW

the stats say mumtaz jumped 160 odd places which meant he gained over 50 points against a fighter on now only 19 and in the guide it says you can only gain 50 maximun

can someone please clarify this i am not tryng to start an argument as everyone knows how bad the ranking systems are

thanks

Mate i try not to look past the top 50 in boxrec' world rankings, it just gets too confusing.

I remember looking at Hamdens record and rating and they had him ranked 92nd before the fight with mundine, then i looked at heath stentons record and it's dismal 15W, 18L earnt him a ranking of 46th in the world.

The Australian rankings mean nothing to me, Any world champion cant be ranked, not sure about regional title holders, but the best are never number 1, it really is best not to lose sleep over it.

Sorry i couldn't give you a more mathematical answer with a formula to solve it.

Not sure how the rankings work, They are computer generated so there will always be flaws.

I share your frustration with rankings!

The fact that there are so few pros competing in each div in Oz tends to make things worse than might otherwise be. Particularly where a new fighter starts out with say 2 wins and 1 loss, and is all of a sudden ranked above guys who've been at it for years, and with reasonable records.
