Predictions on P.A.L tournament winners

Post by BoxingIsLife »

Im not too familiar wit alot of ppl in this yrs. tournament.. but i wanted to make a prediction based on who i do know. Let me know if you agree
132- Shemuel Pagan or Duran Caferro.. Im going to go wit Shemuel.. he does pretty good on the the computer scoring and won the tournament last yr. Although he lost to Duran in the national gg.. Im pretty confident he can pull it off out here.
141- Gary Russell or Jamal James.. Jamal beat him in the finals last yr.. but im lookin for Gary to be alot sharper this yr and pull the victory
152- Tough weight class.. Steven Martinez, Javonte Starks or Edwardo Alicia.. All very good fighters, however, i see Alicia as the better boxer. Javonte has the computer scoring experience, and has beaten Steven before..Steven, however is coming off of his national gg win and has the edge on confidendce.. Im going to with Alicia to win the title
165-Zach Hardrick or Denis Douglin...Denis won last yr and is also coming off the national gg win. Zach has a amazin height and reach advantage but im not sure how skilled he is.. im going wit Denis to win again. the kid throws alot of punches
178- Siju Shabazz.. I honestly dont know anyone else in the weight class and Shabazz is pretty good.
Let me know what you think about my choices??

Don't look past Javonte's first bout against Marquis Moore - JO Champion from 2007. I think that will be pretty good.

I'll go with Russell over James too. I haven't seen Allan in the gym lately, but if he's in condition - I think he will win it all.

132 I think Caferro will win-Pagan got a tougher draw and might be fighting Fidel Maldonado Wed. night. Also; Caferro beat Shemp at GG and all their fights have been close, but Caferro is becoming much stronger. At 165 I figure Douglin or Zach Hardrick will win. At 178; if Thomas Williams is there it'll probably come down to him; Siju, and maybe Dorian Anthony or Zlatko Ledic.

Look for the 165 & 178 classes to have close matchups. Especially 178 with Shabazz ,Williams,Zugic, and Gumina (who stopped Ledic in the first round in the cal pals) Dorian Anthony did not enter.

Some real good fights today.. the biggest upset was Gary Allen Russell losin too micheal brooks.. real close fight.. jamal james looked impressive. Javonte won a real close fight and looked a little sluggish. Edwardo Alicia lost a good fight. Douglin fought a close fight wit a real awkward kid but pulled out the victory.. Zach Hardrick looked good stopping his opponent in the first round.. although the guy did look like he was 50

anybody videotaping that can put bouts up online? Russell and Moore were the two bouts that I wanted to see. Figured they would be close. Did Russell look 100% (if you're familiar with him). He's a very big 141. Can you elaborate on Starks vs. Moore? Did Javontae look sluggish or did Moore just give him a good bout.

As far as Moore and starks yesterday.. i would say it was a combo of both.. Moore did fight a rele good fight.. but starks did look a little sluggish... he looked the total opposite today and moves on to tomorrow... Russell looked a little out of shape and tired in the last round, but still fought a good fight.. the surprise actually came from micheal brooks.. he matched russell in power and although russell was the better boxer. he stood in front of brooks and tried to bang. Brooks simply out worked him. as for today, Shemuel Pagan looked great in 132 and seems to be sharper each time i see him. in 141 Micheal Brooks looked sharp again and was the first person i've seen out score someone with paper scoring. Jamaal James also looked good winning his fight.. In 152 Javonte and Errol Spence looked good, easily defeating their opponents. Steven martinez looked sluggish but still easily won his match.. Theres also another kid in 152 that looked really good and stopped his opponent, but i dont know his name.. i'll find out tomorrow.. In 165 Marcus Browne won his match but it was real close one and rele could've went either way in my opinion. Denis Douglin looked strong stopping his opponent with a barrage of body shots in the firs round. Zach Hardrick also looked decent winning his match.. i didnt really watch the 178s but i'll try to pay more attention tomorrow to everyone.. if theres anyone in particular you want me to watch just let me know and ill try to keep an eye out and report back tomorrow

My main man Thomas Williams won a decision pretty handily yesterday. I'm telling you guys; keep an eye on him, the man is getting some good national level experience and has great training and talent; he's going to be in a position to threaten anyone this coming year. I see also my main Montana guy, Caferro is in for a good match tonight. I expect him to win though, I don't think Martinez quite has the next gear to kick it into that Caferro does.

Hmmn - I have to disagree on some of your views, but I won't. :box: Michael Brooks lost due to a cut tonight - he was ahead on the cards, too. Any one interested in my take can PM me. :DD

I had wondered about the RSC of Brooks. He seemed so strong that I though maybe his opponent was just an unbelievable beast. I guess not.

One of two cuts last night - very rare in amateur boxing. With Brooks, Robinson pushed his glove into his eyebrow; with Zugic, Wiilliams cauught him on the corner of his left eyebrow.

Yeah, cuts are very uncommon in the amateurs. We had a guy get a big nasty cut in the gym sparring. He got hit with a punch and just split his forehead right above the eyebrow. He had to get a bunch of stitches. Very rare indeed.

Are there any 201 or 201+ boxers at the Nat'l PAL? Today is either the quarter-finals or semi-finals for every weight class and yet no heavies or super-heavies are competing. That means there are 4 or less boxers in both of those weight classes. Does anyone know the brackets for those 2 weight classes and willing to post the info?

All bouts for this evening are posted at www.amateurboxing.com, noting quarter or semifinal bouts. I'll check on the3 HW & SHW's when I go to the gym tonight - unless someone else has the info.

You broke your promise Mel. Does that mean that the guy didn't make weight or pass his physical?

The 152 and 165 classes have excellent match-ups for the finals. I'm not going to make any predictions as both of these bouts could easily go either way.
