Duplicate 12-11-1940. Pat Comiskey vs Bob Sikes. Although this is a duplicate and needs to be deleted, since there is a different city (Memphis) involved, it is possible that the date is in error along with the opponent. Comiskey was fighting in that area at the time.

I entered the Hoboken, NJ bout, the details coming from the New York Times. I re-checked my notes and I am sure the date is correct (the fight above in my notes is 10 Dec and the fight below is 12 December). I have written down the location as Hoboken and judging by the long report in the Times it is likely to be a local bout.

I wasn't questioning the Hoboken fight. It's OK. The fight I questioned was the one above it also dated 12-11-1940 on Comiskey's and Sike's record at Memphis. It's a duplicate, but since it has a different city, it is a possibllity that Comiskey had another bout in that slot. He was fighting in the Memphis area at the time. In any case, the second fight needs to be deleted. I just feel a second look at Comiskey's record for that time might be in order, if only as a double-check. I just believe record verification for that time period is in order. Highly probable that nothing belongs there after the deletion. But, on the remote chance, a different bout should be inserted, it would eliminate a future inquiry.

Colin, afterthought to my reply. If I'm reading your reply correctly, you have two fights (Comiskey vs Sikes) on the 11th in Hoboken (this is confirmed) and the 12th in Memphis (the date shows the 11th). But the footnote for Hoboken says he spent 36 hours recovering from the Hoboken fight. This leads me to believe it's a "dupe" or possibly another date and/or opponent should be there. This may be a wild guess on my part. Could this scenario have happened? Sikes was entered with Memphis location and looking at a slant the Minnich fight location (Memphis) was picked up instead. Sikes fight was reentered correctly at Hoboken, but the deletion for the Memphis error was not made or didn't take.

I think the evidence is that the bout was in Hoboken. The duplicate I presume is one that has slipped through (this still occasionally happens) and that the bout is actually on another date (incorrectly entered).

You will still need to "delete me" for the 12-11-1940 bout at Memphis. The record didn't change after the first first fight and is indicitive of the "glitch" problem. Comiskey's track record at that time was about a fight a month.
